@caflis43 The dorms with kitchens such as eastview terrace and the white course apartments are for upper classmen I am pretty sure. I do not know of any freshman dorms with kitchens.
In my search my daughter, I did not see any freshmen dorms with kitchens.
Thank you, I know some colleges that have kitchens on the dorm floors. Wasn’t sure if PSU have them. I will call school today and see. Thanks again!
One of the honors housing dorms has some but I have no idea about the others.
I think the two new dorms, Earle and Robinson, have kitchens on the main level.
Yes, the Earle and Robinson have kitchen on the ground floor.
But you can’t request specific dorms unless something has changed. You can request dorm areas…East, West, etc…but not specific dorms within each area.
You are correct, @jlhpsu. The student chooses the housing area (Pollack, North, etc.), the dorm type (traditional or renovated), but not the specific dorm within that area. Room assignments will be posted in July. However, I did read in eLiving that there will be changes in the process in the 2019-20 school year.
My son will be in either Ritner or Wolf Hall, I have not been able to find any pics of theses halls, anyone know theses two dorms?
@MomNama, my daughter will be in either Ritner or Wolf Hall, too.

From another thread, @PSU586 stated that Pollock dorms are older, but he enjoyed living there during his freshman year.
@dygibbs thank you for the infor, yes my son is going to be in one of those dorms, so excited…we are visiting next week…
@MomNama. My D visited PSU last month for the Achievers 2018 program. I’ m looking forward to my first visit when she returns for NSO in June.
Most of the dorms have a kitchen on the first floor, commonly shared space. The renovated dorms will have open-plan common spaces including kitchens.
@caflis43 , your son can always contact his dining hall manager and get the more detailed version of the monthly menu, which includes a lot of dietary information. This is done for students with food issues but they’ll do it for most anyone who asks.
@greenbutton , thank you for the information. That was very helpful!
Pollock SLO or East for my son?
Incoming freshman, biochem major, wanted the BIOME in Pollock, second choice is East. Hear Pollock is dated, but so is traditional East. I hear the renovated East is beautiful if you can get it…
I hear East is the classic “freshman experience” but dorms/floors can range from quiet to party city…
My son is a quiet science kid but also wants to have a social life and get involved.
Any advice?
What exactly is SLO?
Special Living Option https://housing.psu.edu/special-living-options
@jcbiggs East is a huge complex, and the new dorm is nice, the ones under renovation will be if they ever are finished, the under construction new one will also be nice someday. My point being, it’s a big, big bunch of people. Pollock is a tad more centrally located, still full of people. The “freshman experience” is a lot of hooey, imho. Meeting people in your college and cohort is the big payoff of the SLO’s, and a faster path to comfort in and out of the classroom than random shenanigans amongst the floors at East. But honestly, don’t overthink the differences.
thanks for your advice. My son is comfortable with BIOME as his first choice. I think for him the advantages of a SLO will benefit him.
I am committing to penn state today but I am very confused regarding the housing. I am a computer science major, which area will be more suited for me based on major and what other factors do I need to consider when selecting my living options, and what about SLOs, what are the benfits and disadvantages of SLOs?The last one I can think of right now is what is the difference between traditional hall and renovated halls?
