Letting Schools Know You Will Not Be Attending

@sorifootball13 turned down Milton.

@mrnephew‌ and @needtoboard‌ I kind of had the same thing with Loomis. When I visited Loomis it was so nice there and everyone was quite nice and I got to watch track practice and I talked with quite a few teachers. I felt like everyone there cared about me, and only me, which was great.
But of course, in the end, I picked Exeter, and I haven’t even stepped foot on its campus since November of '12. Of course Exeter is considered to be more prestigious, but it was the culture of intellectual thought that made me choose Exeter.
I personally called the admissions officer who made me feel at home during my visit (on her personal cell phone no less!), and my mom sent her cookies from a nearby bakery in Windsor.
For Taft however, I just sent an email haha.

I really hope Loomis took some people off the 10th grade waitlist @boardingjunkie and @mrnephew.

So true. I get there were people dying to get off that list.
Well in a way, I’m glad I cleared up a spot for someone :)

I hope we did @boardingjunkie

Loomis turned down the possibility of getting off the waitlist by changing the decision letter content without any notice

"Thank you for your continued interest in Loomis Chaffee. This was a very competitive year in admissions as we had far more qualified candidates than spaces available.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer you admission from our waitlist this year. I know that this will be disappointing news, but please know that your application was considered carefully and thoughtfully. We know that you will have success at whichever school you have chosen to attend."

So anyone still have hopes, please log in your Loomis applications for checking up.

That’s not fair. There are three CC 10th grade applicants that turned down the school and they can’t take someone off the waitlist?

@needtoboard 1. It doesn’t work like that. They estimate their yield and admit more than they know will attend. 2. We don’t know if some kids were taken off and everyone else got this form letter. 3. Life isn’t fair.

I agree with @stagirl3. That letter does very clearly say “you,” so that could very well mean that one or two current freshman were called and admitted. After that, they closed the waitlist and sent a letter out to everyone else.

Slightly off-topic, but, anyone know how I can get out of an re-enrollment contract for my current school? I just got accepted to a boarding school as a late applicant (I was utterly surprised- they don’t have rolling admission…) and the first payment for my school is on June 1st. Haha, sorry for changing the subject!

PS: I’m back! Well first I didn’t want to depress myself with acceptance threads haha

@ccnaf14 What school? Can you PM me? And congrats!

Congrats! I’m so happy for you  @ccnaf14‌
Where are you going?

@ccnaf14 message me, my family went through the same experience.

@mathman1201‌ I got into Saint James school in Maryland as a late applicant. It’s a smaller, lesser known boarding school but I loved it. Let me tell you, acceptance feels a lot better than rejection!

Congratulations! My daughter was on the campus of Saint James recently for a sports event. She said it was a beautiful school and the people were very friendly. She usually doesn’t remark on things like that, so Saint James must have made an unusually good impression on her. Hope you enjoy your time there!

@ccnaf14: CONGRATS!! It seems like a great school! :)

^^^ Son of our friends went to St. James and did very well by it. From there he went on to Va. Tech, and med school, doing his residency now. He spoke highly of St. James; his parents liked the headmaster and were happy overall.

@BSBound‌ It really is, the people are very genuine and nice- I didn’t spot too many spoiled brats, everyone came up to say hi. It was a lot friendlier than the school I had originally fell in love with.

@Charger78‌ The headmaster is a really great guy, very friendly, as was everyone else on campus.
