LGBT at HMC?

There are definitely several LGBT Mudders on campus. Even though Mudd is male-dominated, there is a culture of acceptance of everyone that starts from the social standards. Officially, of course, no discrimination or abuse is tolerated but I haven’t heard of any official complaints. The honor code and small community keeps people in check. I think you’ll find that Mudders are not only very accepting but embracing of variety in people.

I had several friends at Mudd who were openly very gay. In fact, one of them was a prominent member of the dorm and we would send out funny emails to eachother regarding stupid stuff (stupid videos and “hey, who took my pants” and stuff like that). He would sometimes allude (in a mass emailing) to his boyfriend coming over and everyone really didn’t care at all.

Basically, you’ll be taken care of. Mudd is socially quite liberal and we embrace variety and people being able to express who they really are. Also, people will be too busy working their butts off to really care (if they have a conservative upbringing). Even if they did care pretty much the whole Mudd student body/faculty/5C’s will have your back.

There is also a LGBT support network at the 5C’s if you need it. I suspect you won’t unless you are in the middle of coming out or something.
Straight, Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Transgendered, White, Black, Green, Yellow? Who cares. If you love math/science/engineering go to Mudd!
