Otterbein is a small liberal arts university, but if you are an MT or an Acting major, you only have one (required) gen ed per term. I seriously can’t imagine taking too many more classes than what is required . . . their days are extremely jam-packed.
Muhlenburg is a small, very well regarded liberal arts college (LAC) that is rated “Very Difficult” to get into by CollegeData.com and is ranked fairly highly by US News (#64 among LAC’s). It has a beautiful, traditional college campus in a small city. The MT program is non-audition, but you can audition for scholarships. The theatre program is quite large for a school of its size and receives considerable attention from the school. The MT program at Muhlenburg is a BA.
UArts is a visual and performing arts conservatory located in the heart of the Philadelphia arts district. It has a non-traditional, urban campus focused on pre-professional Fine Arts training. It is an audition-based program that is competitive for entry. The MT program at U Arts is a BFA.
Both schools are about the same size in terms of number of students.
As well, Muhlenberg doesn’t truly have a MT degree program. However, a student can easily piece together MT training between the theater, music, and dance courses available. They also stage musicals.
It’s different @BeccaW444. It is easier to be part of the theatre program because there is no audition. Auditions are for scholarship $ only. But I would say it is a more difficult admit academically than Ithaca and Montclair and possible even Emerson.
@beccaw444 – Muhlenburg is an academically competitive admit, and they take demonstrated interest into account in the admissions decision making process. So, as vvnstar says, it is just different.
UARTS is a conservatory program and is as artistically selective as Ithaca, Emerson, and Montclair (as well as other schools… but, those were the three you mentioned specifically in post #26)
