Likely letter? (CAS, Pauline and Irving Tanner Dean's Scholarship)

To supervisor, just saw your post.

I respect your research (and the time you have to do it). There was no monetary award or prize whatsoever; it was a scholarship awarded by the Board of Education on behalf of the City of New York at an award ceremony at which the Mayor gave out the plaques - probably to about 15 of us, maybe 20 as some recipients were unable to attend. There was no “prize money” and I am not exactly sure why you think there was. I never said anything about prize money. It was a scholarship that is paid by the City toward 4 years of tuition. I don’t get the money myself, nor did any of the other recipients. We each get 10,000 per year for up to 4 years of college. There is no “reward” and I also don’t know where you got that. I would never have referred to a reward when in reality it is a scholarship, only awardable toward college tuition expense for 4 years. The New York Daily News in early 2010 does have an article on high school fund raising efforts for Haiti. You may be looking at the right picture; I believe another student in the picture is from Brooklyn Tech, another magnet school. The article mentions serval names and schools that participated.

In terms of the Mayor, the closest any of us got was a simple handshake.

You can call, email or go in person to MIT or Cornell if you want, and if you have the time, I would encourage you to do that. Integrity and honesty is critical. However, I am not going to attend Cornell and sent them a letter by Certified mail turning down something called a Tanner Scholarship and a place in the class of 2015. I will, however, probably be going to Mass. Inst of Technology, unless I get admitted to Yale where I was previously deferred.

I do thank you for your attention and research efforts. I do not believe you are not ■■■■■■■■ and think you have a genuine interest in insuring that applicants submit bona fide and genuine credentials when applying to Institutions of Higher Learning. I would never accuse you of ■■■■■■■■, and please excuse me if anything I said suggests that.

Thank you for your research, curiosity, concern about integrity and genuine interest in insuring that students provide truthful and accurate information.

I do not know which College you will be attending, but I am sure that any school would be very honored to have you given your attention to detail and genuine concern for the truth. It is comforting to know that people like you are vigilant and do the necessary research to back up their findings. If you are going to Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, I do believe you will be a great asset to a great Ivy League University, and I believe you will be very successful in your pursuits.
