Recommend buying inexpensive sheets (like the tshirt material which are comfy but get all weirdly stretched out of shape so you toss them and replace, eventually) from BB&B, TJMaxx, or the like.

Also agreeing with overstock for mattress topper. But when it arrives have them air it out for a day or 2 before putting it on the bed. It has a weird chemical smell.

DS is going on his third year with duvet cover from Company Store and XL sheets from Target. We actually got our mattress topper from Wal-Mart. It is, by far, the most important part of his bedding.

I took a tour of the linens dept at Walmart and only found 1 pkg of twin xl sheets and it was just lame white. The mattress toppers didn’t look great and I didn’t see any that were twin xl

Don’t forget Amazon.com for dorm linens all year round. Some of the bricks and mortar stores only carry the dorm stuff in the summer or only have a small variety (as Walmart has right now). Amazon has free or cheap shipping and there are many mattress toppers, comforters and a huge selection of name brand and no name XL sheets that could be delivered to his college year round. I also got his mini-fridge and his microwave on Amazon. Another poster recommended Company Store, which has great quality, but can be pretty expensive. No need for an XL comforter. I just used regular twin sized comforters for my kids and it was always fine. Just FYI, both of my daughters went to women’s colleges and one of them had regular twin sized beds, ie NOT XL, so do check with college Res Life as to bed size.

Bed Bath and Beyond has a small empire providing absolutely everything one might need for a dorm room this time of year.

Ross Dress for Less, Marshalls, TJ Maxx and Home Goods for Twin XL and Twin. Usually can find nautica, ralph lauren, tommy, and other nicer brands for Target/Walmart prices. JCpenney’s as well, and Lands End but use a coupon and shop the outlets for both. Good luck.

Tuesday Morning had twin XL sheets pretty cheap a couple of weeks ago anyway.

It’s still a bit too early for Walmart, Target, etc., but in a month or so they will have huge sections of dorm supplies including xl sheets.

had a little argument with wifey last night. we got a 2nd mailing for this stuff from the college. formerly she decided it would be easiest to buy from school at least the first year. now she says she will do the legwork. she’s an Elem teacher so she is off for a couple months and has the time. our argument revolved around her changing her mind. I agreed we could do whatever she wanted and just rolled my eyes. I think that’s what really bothered her.

I bought DS’s sheets and comforter through the campus mail order last summer.I bought the higher thread count sheets. He came home last weekend for a visit. I asked him if his sheets and comforter had held up through the wash. He said yes they were fine and he hadn’t had any problems with them and wondered why I had asked. I told him that after I had purchased them I had seen on CC how people had complained about the quality. Anyway he say they are fine and he does wash them on a regular basis(he has a GF so I believe he probably does wash them) and they don’t need to be replaced. So while I probably spent more money I didn’t have to take him to the store and he picked out the pattern he wanted from the website.

GFs … the ultimate motivator … ;)

Rumrunner, you’ll appreciate the words on the plaque that Pop hung in our home for years; “I am the master of this house; whatever my wife says shall be done forthwith.”
