peskemom- based on what you posted, she will need a vision waiver…the academy cannot exceed a certain percent of admissions with vision waivers (i believe the limit is 30%) …at this time she is not considered “triple q’d”…as there remains a need for a waiver. All is not lost- hang in there- especially if everything is in order…and there is an added bonus of being a female…(please, lets not start that thread again!)

Our son’s BGO just emailed us and informed us that last Thursday the board voted to grant our son a “Conditional LOA”. His vision is not the greatest but he was deemed “waiverable” by the DODMEB. Any thoughts on exactly what this means?

Our son just got a CVW invitation today. What does this mean?

You should probably start a CWV (Candidate Weekend Visit) thread. There was a group of posts about it yesteday in this http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=101567 and this http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=92987&page=2&pp=20 threads.

I just noticed it. My attention to detail is not that great!

3106: Based on my understanding, a conditional LOA means that they are offering admission providing he receives a nomination, and a vision waiver, and that he maintains good grades for rest of year and remains healthy. The nomination is important; the waiver would probably be granted considering they have offered a conditional LOA. Best of luck!

Hey 2010!

My name is Shawna, and I’m from Boston, MA. I want to go into the Marines, possibly into intelligence. I went to NASS session one…anyone else from D-1-4?

Got my LOA almost a week ago, just waiting to hear from DoDMERB to schedule appointment. I’m definitely going on a weekend visit. Go Navy!

TIM44: Hats off for giving it another go! I believe once your paperwork gets to USNA they will notify DoDMERB, who in turn will send you the paperwork for updates- as long as your last DoDMERB medical was within 2 years, all you will need is to update the info requested on the sheet.
Meeting with your BGO is a good idea, and the sooner the better.
The Army leadership camp sounds great…Navy or not, it certainly shows you are motivated, as does your second application. May I ask, how come you sat out the fall semester? Just curious. While you are waiting, are there any colleges in your area where you can pick up a course or 2- perhaps calc or english- so that you have something to show USNA? I know here there are a few colleges around here, for example, that offer weekend and evening courses, even some that start as late as 11/1 for the fall semester (classes usually run on 6 consecutive saturdays for 4 hrs each class)…might be something to consider.
Congratulations on the ARTOC scholarship at Penn State- let us know how you make out.
Don’t worry about others in your area re: nominations; it is a given there will be “others.” Just stay focused on your application and do the very best you can. As you probably know, each MOC can nominate 10 candidates for every slot they have open at the academies- so you never know. Just do your best, and again , putting yourself through this for a second time will certainly demonstrate your motivation, desire and determination!
Best of luck!

boston usmc: I don’t mean to be a downer, and i’m not trying to smash your dreams or anything, but the Intelligence field is considered a Restricted Line position. Only midshipman who are not physically qualified for Unrestricted Line may select these positions.

Anyone feel free to correct me. This is just what I understood from the website and my Naval Science class.

DMeix: that is true for the Navy, but in the Marines I can go into intel right after The Basic School, if I get my first option. I know many people who have had intel be their first MOS, including my dad; it all depends on how you do at TBS. Thanks for looking out for me, but in the Marines I do have the opportunity to go right in. :-D

Ah, well, in that case, I wish you the best of luck in achieving your goals.

I’m Marley Cassels, from Columbia, Missouri. Attended Summer Seminar, Session 2, Alpha 2-3. Currently having problems with medical waiver for allergy immunotherpy (allergy shots), any advice would GREATLY be appreciated!

oops ss2: a-2-3 teen girl squad!! (aka the amazing shrinking squad)

Hi. I’m Elizabeth Byers from Fordland Missouri, and i attended Summer Seminar Session 3, A-2-2. Anyone out there from Alpha double deuce? Got my “guarentee of offer of appointment” on Sept. 27 (as long as i pass dodmerb and get a nomination). Is that the same thing as a LOA? p.s. i really don’t know too much about all this stuff, i just know that NASS was AWESOME!!! and i want to go back

Oh–by the way, is anyone else doing the visit weekend on Feb. 10-11? Hopefully I’ll see ya there

Hey, my name is Aaron Rosa. I went to NASS Week 1, Delta 1-3. I’ve been accepted to NAPS.

-shawna

Thank you. I made a video of NASS if anyone wants to contact me, then i will send it in an email. My BGO liked it so much that he is using it as a recruiting tool.
