An alumna called to tell me that at least in some cases the local alumni scholarships are now offered to continuing students. Check with the local USC alumni club in your region to check on their requirements.

Georgia Girl,

I think that the SCion Scholarship is no longer offered to prospective incoming freshmen. (My son won that schlorship 2 years ago, but when son #2 tried to apply for it this year, we were told that it is now only offered to current undergrads.)

WantBrown,

From what I’ve seen, very few of the schools in the Top 25 offer merit based scholarships. (I guess they figure they’re all brilliant if they can get in, so everyone “merits” a scholarship — they only award based on need.) USC is one of the few exceptions – Vandy is too. Not sure about the rest.

LegacyMom,

SC alumni are considered to be among the most loyal in the country. Many give scholarships as they wish to expand opportunities for incoming students. Cost of attendance at private universities can be over $50,000 per year. Parents in the middle and lower income brackets find this prohibitive. Alumni use scholarships as one way to “give back” to their alma mater.

If you read the list of merit scholarships for continuing students you will find many memorial scholarships. Some alumni and friends of the university use a scholarship as a way to remember a loved one who was either a professor, student or alumna/alumnus of SC.

Thanks for the info regarding scholarships for continuing students. I wonder why they’ve stopped offering for prospective students? I am guessing because the competition is so stiff they want to wait to see how the kids do while at USC?

So when do you find out if you got a scholarship? the small ones cause i heard the presiden/trustee/deans have already been given out.

Seniors should hear on or before April 1. Last year some students reported the mail service had delivered notices to the wrong address.

If anyone has moved or changed mailing addresses be sure the admissions office has been notified.

The above is information on many of the merit scholarships awarded to incoming freshmen.

Deadline for merit scholarship consideration is:

For the 2011-2012 academic year around 27, 000 seniors applied for the long list of merit scholarships. Selection is holistic.

as an international student can you get a full tuition scholarship, and can you get more than just one scholarship

There are very few highly competitive merit scholarships for international students. Check the admissions/scholarship information section of the USC website: [University of Southern California](http://www.usc.edu) .

yes but for example as an international student can you get the Mork fam scholarship, or stamps leadership, or trustee scholarships. Are them open to us, international students, or only to us citizens?

It is my understanding those scholarships are not available to international students. Some countries provide scholarship help to their own citizens.

International scholarships are available at SC, but highly competitive. Check the internet to see if there are any civic, corporate or private scholarships offered for international students who wish to study in the United States.

Reposted for possible new applicants…

If any new merit scholarships are announced I will add them to the list.

The scholarships above are offered, but some of the admisions information will have to be updated when the new class is selected.
