I would add a big fat caveat that these colleges consider assets as well as income in calculating financial need.
I would also emphasize that families intrigued by these college advertisements should use college Net Price Calculators to see an estimate applicable to their actual financial situation and not make the mistake of assuming that anything is “free.”
One last asterisk, “tuition” does not include room and board and fees.
There is nothing special or new about what these colleges are giving for financial aid. They are just keeping their aid up with inflation. There are probably plenty of other top schools that haven’t made such announcements, er, advertisements, about their aid per income level that probably give similar aid packages.
