I think kids who make it to this level of anything partly do so because they are not shaken by the pressure that most kids would buckle under. That is part of the talent and skill set which allows them to succeed. There are plenty of other activities that put the top tier of kids under similar pressure… the national spelling bee, pageants, even the few who are cast in the entertainment industry at young ages.

Confession.
To see the LLWS has been on my bucket list. I retire in June, but plan an overseas move shortly thereafter. If I don’t go in 2014, I think it will have to taken out of the bucket.

gloworm - hope you make it; forewarning: going through security there is equivalent of going through airport security. When we went, H had a pocket knife attached to his key ring and decided to sacrifice it instead of walking really far back to our car to put it in there. We also had sunscreen we were planning on putting on once we got inside the park… no liquids, etc. over 2 oz., so we had to apply it at the gate, and throw it out. So before you go, check out the website to see what can and what cannot be brought into the park.

We had to DVR the final game today as it was nice out and we decided to spend the afternoon the dog park. Just finished watching. Tough loss for CA.

Thanks for the heads up. I would really like to go as a volunteer interpreter/translator. There are lots of Spanish-speakers there who don’t speak English.

^^^ That would be REALLY cool! Hope you get the chance.

I have always thought so, but my school is already in session, so I’m hoping for next year.

I heard today that the Chula Vista team is actually in school right now, too; they are on a year-round schedule and have been back since the end of July. Each night the kids have been doing 2-3 hours of homework so they won’t fall so far behind.
