@VeryHappy, I really enjoyed the movie, too! I plan to see it again, so I can pick up the finer points that I missed the first time around, when I was more intent on following the time shifts. It was interesting to see what parts of the novel Greta Gerwig chose to focus on. If I recall correctly, earlier versions were more about the relationship between Jo and Beth; for this film, it was more about the relationship between Jo and Amy. I thought the actress who played Amy (Florence Pugh) was terrific. She really brought to life a complex (and not always likeable) character.
I Have Little Women at home, and also A Garland For Girls, which is a collection of short stories. I encourage others to reread this book too, as it shows so much of the philanthropy, the class differences, the attitude towards the Irish, etc
I always rather liked Amy so I am looking forward to seeing what the movie does with her. I probably won’t see it till after my visiting kid goes back to CA since he has no interest. He’s surprisingly negative about watching movies in general, he’s already decided he won’t like the new Star Wars movie and won’t see that either, though he’s seen all the other ones.
My S isn’t into movies much either. D on the other hand majored in cinema, so we have quite the contrast. I think D and I may go to Little Women afterS leaves in a few days.
