<p>Well, it’s true for the “big time programs” that have athletes drafted into the NFL. Not only do the football profits fund all the money-losing other sports that would rob academic money if football didn’t cover their tushies, the profits help pay for other academic endevors and merit scholarships. Do you realize that all/nearly all female sports are money-losers and get funded either thru college budget or successful football???</p>
<p>My own kids’ flagship has huge football, but the athletic dept NETTED over $30 million dollars last year after paying for EVERYONE’s coaches, equipment, travel to games, facilities, uniforms, etc, etc. This was all because of football. Naive people scream that the head football coach makes about $5M a year. Ha ha…he is essentially paying his own salary and everyone else’s with the successes he has. He could be paid $10M a year and he’d still be making the school a huge profit.</p>
