Lmao Drinking Kool-Aid

I think this is one of those phrases that becomes a cliche nearly instantly. I’m already so bored with it that my eyes glaze over every time I see it and I don’t even read the rest of the post.

Lizchup, I apologize if I gave you the impression that I think that Democrats are the only people capable of political KoolAid consumption. Believe me when I say that I continue to see some (thankfully, relatively few) members of CC who still enthusiastically chug-a-lug for Wubbya. It does boggle the imagination, certainly. Interestingly enough, most GOP “true believers” (overwhelmingly of the Christian Wrong—I mean, Right) seem reluctant to drink up for McCain, because he just doesn’t lean far enough to the right for their tastes, which is why he’s so often having to throw “red meat” in their direction. He knows that most of us have had it “up to here” after two terms of Bush/Cheney, and many of us are desperate enough to run headlong, and unthinkingly in the far opposite direction. So McCain knows he had better pander somewhat to the far right, if he’s to stand even a chance of winning in the fall.

But I’m not criticizing the very understandable desire to elect a Democrat as POTUS this time around, so much as the way some people seem inclined to believe that this would result in some sort of miracle. They seem to believe that the candidate they support could surly walk on water if only given the opportunity. I guess I’m too cynical to believe that either, Barack Obama, or Hillary Clinton can even come close to curing all that ails us. I’ve seen Presidents of both parties trade places after their 8 year cycles, culminating in abject electorate frustration and disillusion. The “current political climate” isn’t in any way unique. It just appears to be the Democrats’ turn this time.:rolleyes"

The country (not to mention much of the world) is in such a mess a a result of this administration’s policies, I wonder why anyone would want to be POTUS. Truly it’s not a job I would wish on anyone.

mommusic - I agree with the final remarks in your post (not sure we can blame EVERYTHING on Bush!).

But fortunately we have a candidate that is about as prepared to be POTUS as anyone has ever been. And guess what - he WANTS the job!

Did you know that it was Flavor Aid, not Kool-Ade, that they drank at Jonestown?
I agree that it means uncritical support–essentially the same thing as being a “dittohead.”

“But fortunately we have a candidate that is about as prepared to be POTUS as anyone has ever been. And guess what - he WANTS the job!”

Do you think it’s obvious who you mean?
