LMU Early Application class of 2024

Son just let me know his portal updated a moment ago. Arupe for $32k and the EA for $2k. That’s what we needed to be competitive w/ the CSU and UC’s. No word on Jesuit HS award which he should be in the running for, coming from such. He applied Communications as he’s pre-law. He’s still leaning SDSU where he got early acceptance, though, as he wants the big school environment. SAT 1420, GPA 4.24.

Got it in the mail in SoCal! $32,000 Arrupe Scholarship and $2,000 EA Award. Nothing is updated on my portal yet…

Correction…
Just got home and Son says got letter in mail. Postmark is Jan. 31 and we’re in Bay Area. Nothing showed scanned on Post Office email this am. Had him check and no portal update yet.

Hold out hope everyone.

D20 received $16,500 Arrupe + 2K EA…She is a 3.95/4.3 and 34 ACT Poli Sci major. Pretty disappointing. Since we are full pay we sadly can’t afford LMU.

Just got the portal update (still nothing in the mail in Bay Area and mail came today). D20 received 12,500 Arrupe and 2k EA. She’s got 3.9/4.3 GAP and 34 ACT. Film Production major. Was hoping for more than this.

Does anyone know does the 2k go for all four years? Not that it’s very much but just wondered.

Hmmm. They send a pamphlet and it indicates “Arrupe Scholarship $32,500 per year, $130,000 over four years.”

The $2k EA is actually listed only under “Your 2020-2021 Financial Aid Award” so it seems to be a one-off.

Was the Jesuit HS award given within his own HS or was it an LMU award?

The early action award is actually every year, it says on their website

Sorry for all the confusion…

The Jesuit HS award would be through LMU and is given to 1 student from each qualifying HS as I understand it. He’s been Catholic School all his life and his HS is definitely a qualifying institution I’d imagine.

Great info on the EA award, thanks for clearing that up.

I just looked at their scholarships and are you automatically considered for them? My son will be coming from a Jesuit High School as well. Thanks !

@nervoussenior111 can you point to a link where it says on their website that the 2k EA award repeats every year? I cannot find anything about it right now. Thanks.

Mopep

On LMU’s Freshman Scholarship webpage it has the following:

“Loyola Marymount University offers a wide range of academic scholarship programs to recognize and reward the academic accomplishments of our most distinguished entering freshmen. No special application is required for these scholarships. All applicants for admission are automatically considered. Selection is based on academic accomplishment, including GPA, standardized test results, rigor of college prep curriculum and class standing. Additional factors may also be considered for particular scholarships, as indicated below.”

And they bold the part about no special app. I haven’t yet heard of anyone being awarded one of these Jesuit HS scholarships and my son monitors a group chat room of LMU prospective students and no mention there, so I’m hoping that one is still in play.

Ok. Came in the portal finally. $17k/ year. Nothing about the 2k for EA so I guess we aren’t getting that? Disappointing and probably makes it out of reach for us. I wish everyone else luck.

@2tiredmomma the PDF about the financial awards is 8 pages. The first page is the cover with the lion statue, the second page has the Arrupe or whatever award and the amount and tells you how much it is over 4 years, and the third page goes over the whole financial aid picture - grants, loans you can take, work study, etc. and that’s where the $2,000 per year EA award showed up for my D. Maybe you didn’t look at that page?

@CAtransplant thank you. I’ll go back in with my DD and look at that. You are correct, we missed that page.

D received email with portal update, although no postal mail yet. $16.5K Arrupe scholarship + $2K EA per year. Unfortunately, this puts LMU out of the running for us as well due to COA. Unless someone knows about additional scholarship opportunities? D has a 4.3 W GPA with 1470 SAT, anticipated IB diploma, tons of service hours, part-time work 1+ yr, varsity sports, singer, multiple other ECs, etc.

Still nothing in mail (Oregon) but son logged on last night and found results similar to those posted here. Arrupe +2 and leaves us quite a bit beyond what we can swing (and above our FAFSA) EFC.

@vazqcel
I hope you cast a wide net in your college search. On paper you would be arguably one of the strongest candidates at my huge high school (2600 kids). Really some awesome work. Even if it isn’t LMU, a school is going to give you an amazing deal (for your hard work)!

Did anyone else just like not get financial aid? My family isn’t very wealthy, we definitely qualified for money from the fafsa but they literally only gave me 3,800 total. My family cannot pay 60,000 a year for college.
