All of the hotels folks have mentioned are booked for the dates we want. We stayed at Hilton Garden Inn last time for the same convention years ago. We appreciate the insights.
Another Philadelphian here. I don’t know the hotels, but I do know the neighborhoods (and restaurants) well. The Days Inn is in Chinatown, which has great dining options, but is less upscale than the neighborhoods surrounding the other two hotels. In general, the south side of the convention center is the higher rent area. IMO, the Cambria is a slightly better, busier location, right on Broad Street, which is the heart of things. Alexander Inn is in a more residential spot.
Understandable, @HImom .We assumed there was no convention when we were there because we got a room. Booked in January for August.
Yes, for this particular convention, there will likely be about 15,000 people and families attending, so a huge block of rooms are reserved.
My friend is very interested in discussing hotels this weekends before I release them. I try to book hotels as soon as the rooms become available to avoid being really far and paying really high rates.
H and I will stay at Cambria. My friend may opt for Days Inn, due to closer proximity (she generally rents an electric scooter).
I hope you’ll have time for some non-convention activities as Philly is a great city with many cultural attractions and a wonderful dining scene. The best restaurants only book out a rolling 6 months so set yourself a reminder six month from your arrival to book some reservations.
Ok. Will do. Thanks @doschicos and everyone. Last time we were there, we saw the liberty bell and where they drafted the constitution. We also spent several days at Gettysburg. H is a huge history buff—I’m the foodie! It will be mid-May, which is a lovely time of year.
If you like art, plenty of great museums and such as well. The Barnes, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Mural Arts walking tour. Also, the Philly area is big horticultural area. Longwood Gardens outside of Philly is breathtaking and worth a visit. May would be a perfect time. Your husband would likely enjoy a trip out to Valley Forge.
Yes, we attended an evening reception at a lovely museum where we ran into a friend’s D who was the docent there. Can’t remember the name of the museum any more. It was walking distance of the convention center and hotel, I believe.
Hmmm, may have to arrive early to take in some of these attractions. The conference days are quite packed. At the end of it, we are pretty ready to go home.
OK we have canceled Days Inn, I’ve upgraded the Alexander Inn for my friend so she can have a larger room, and we have a room for ourselves at Cambria. Phew! I’m happy and now can stop worrying about lodging.
