Looking for a great fit LAC

Speaking of Beloit, OP, did your D ever apply there? If so, any word? I always thought that school would be an ideal fit too. Also, did you ever hear from Kenyon and Bryn Mawr? I think she’d love those two also.

I believe there wouldn’t be an answer from Kenyon until March since it was an RD app.

@Momof2girlsandafrenchie - It’s waaaaay early for seeing a lot of action in FB groups. My D didn’t start looking at them until April.

In our experience, kids didn’t do much on FB until they made the decision to matriculate to a college. These colleges are early action…and the decisions don’t need to be made until May 1.

@LoveTheBard Actually not necessarily true. The FB group for my sons ED school is fairly active with multiple splinter group chats as well.
He has even participated in a meet up lunch over break with other local ED admitted students.

I thought no one HS age used Facebook anymore :stuck_out_tongue:

@OHMomof2 My son had to create an account :)) hence the multiple splinter group chats.

@OHMomof2 My D is all about instagram and snapchat, never FB anymore

Yes…ED groups are starting…because those kids have committed to the college.

EA schools…not so much so.

Yes she got accepted to Beloit before Christmas I think. We just don’t have a financial package I called to check on it today and they said another 7 to 10 days. We did not get the financial aid package from Earlham tonight. They told me yesterday it was ready and it would be emailed but it’s not. I see that other students have gotten theirs so that makes me a little anxious. Knox is probably not gonna happen it’s not going to be what she and I thought it would be. The gap is going to be way too large. So, we are kind of feeling like if we don’t get a good package from Earlham…or admitted to StO…sigh…I’m going to try not to go there.

And no we haven’t heard from Kenyon or BMC. I wasn’t expecting anything from either of them this soon and honestly I’m not even thinking about them, neither is she.

You won’t hear a peep from them until mid to late March. They release all admissions at once. We were there visiting several years ago the day the snail mail letters went out (might be a portal now, but it wasn’t then). Everyone in the admissions office was staring out the window as the mail carrier loaded them into the truck. Apparently he’d dropped the box the year before…

Don’t let your D settle on anything until those results are in. If she has any new accomplishments, have her send an email off to their main admissions email with that info and a comment that she is excited that her application is being considered for admission there.

Just make sure you have submitted all of the financial aid stuff to Kenyon and BMC.

Be patient.

We did…but those schools aren’t really on her radar. We followed some advice that said just apply and wait and see what happens, cross that bridge if you come to it.

The schools she felt like were real possibilities, we have heard from with the exception of her ED school. She got into to all of them.

It’s just about FA at this point.

I suppose anything could change between now and May…

Don’t get discouraged. I’m sure everything will work out one way or another. In the meantime maybe you can do something unrelated to colleges like watch a movie or whatever distracts you. Hang tight.

@citymama9 I’m trying. I haven’t been doing a really good job focusing because my daughter keeps refreshing her email. She’s anxious as well. Which is actually good news because it means she’s getting vested in the process and understanding the financial part.

Has anyone heard news about @twoinanddone daughter? They have been in my thoughts all day.

Thanks for all the well wishes for my flu-ridden daughter. She was very sick last night and I looked at airfares and it was possible to get there by Sat. morning, but she turned down my offer because she’s feeling better. She went back to the health center to confirm she doesn’t have meningitis and her fever was down. She’s had 4-5 times in her life when she’s been really, really sick and this was one of them.

Her question was “Do you think I can do the Habitat for Humanities build on Sat?” She’ll be back at practice next week but wondering why her cough won’t go away.

My nephew goes to school 45 minutes from home. My sister doesn’t drop in, and it she did she’d be disappointed because college kids aren’t always home. Most often she’d drive up on Sunday mornings (pre-planned) and take him to breakfast because most of the on-campus cafes aren’t open until 11 on Sundays and he’d get hungry before then. It was a nice treat for him, not intrusive. One of his good friends goes to a college that is closer to his home than their high school was. At first it seemed a little TOO close but after a few weeks it was fine (he lived on campus). It’s very easy to set boundaries, especially when everyone is busy, plus visits can last 5 minutes rather than 5 days.

@twoinanddone Glad your daughter sounds better, always a relief when they are on the mend, no matter what age.

My daughter’s financial aid package came from Earlham!! Wow Wow Wow. I have never felt so relieved as I do in this moment. Grateful, blessed, big fat tears rolling down my face.

@twoinanddone I am so relieved to hear that your daughter is feeling better. To be young and bounce back so quickly is amazing.

That cough can hang around for a while. I haven’t had the flu in a couple of years, thank goodness but I remember the cough just lasting for weeks.

Thank you so much for letting us know!

Assuming that this means that Earlham is affordable, congratulations!

Now the decision is simple: if she gets admission with the expected FA from St. Olaf, she goes there, otherwise she goes to Earlham. You and she can relax even more.
