I vote for Block Island. If you’re not taking a car, you can either fly from Westerly or take a ferry from New London or Point Judith. Try the 1661 Inn or the Surf Hotel or Ballards. In early June, you shouldn’t have any trouble getting a room. You’ll feel like you’ve left the country while you’re there.
And you don’t need a car on the island; you can rent a bike and you’ll be fine.
Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket would also be sweet destinations for a getaway.
The Oceanfront Lodge at the Bar harbor inn - Maine. Watch the sunset and sunrise from your balcony. When you get bored with that, you can stroll to the pool, walk into town or go to Acadia. No beach but the views are beautiful and we did not want to leave. Breakfast is included.
I would vote for either Ogunquit or Block Island but another place that I think is very nice is Cape Ann, right outside of Boston. You can even take a commuter train to Gloucester but ideally you want to have a car. I cannot think of the two hotels right in Good Harbor when you come out of Gloucester. There is another place right on the beach in Rockport. There are lots of hotels with water views in Newport although not really what I would think of as a beach resort like the Cape or Watch Hill… but you do have the opportunity to tour the Newport mansions which are always fun.
You can also walk the Cliff Walk in Newport!
Thank you, everyone, for these wonderful suggestions! No ocean swimming for me, so I don’t mind how cold the water is. I would love to have an annual seaside retreat and be able to try all of these places eventually. Right now I’m debating between the Black Point Inn, Inn at Ocean’s Edge, Wequasset, and Castle Hill Inn in Newport, but I find I add more to my list with almost every post.
This is a nice dilemma to ponder while the district attorney’s staff keeps 23 ticked-off people waiting. Nothing so grand about being on a grand jury, btw.
