Looking for new carry on bag for flights

Yes, Deb. I’m having a hard time typing anything with my puppy overhand. But they have so many nice options

Cute puppy!

@HouseChatte That is the bag I am currently using! My shoulder strap clip broke, so they replaced the strap. I don’t mind the bag, but for airline travel, I find it hard to deal with at times as my computer drops to the bottom. I wish it had some pockets or a divider or some sort, otherwise I have enjoyed this bag for years.

I use a Longchamps tote too.

I also have a pretty large Baggelini that has tons of pockets. I can fit lots on it, and it’s easy to carry.

I also have a small Vera Bradley duffle that has a shoulder strap and fits nicely under the seat. It holds a lot…and I’ve actually travelled for overnight trips with just this bag.

@snowball might a tote bag insert work for you?

I like weekender bags by LeSportsac. Lightweight and can be washed easily (a nice attribute these days).

I got a pacsafe backpack last year as a second carryon that fits under the seat. I also have a travelon soft cross body bag that I squished into the backpack to get on the plane. I like the look of a tote, but like to have my hands free and having the weight spread over both shoulders.

Today, Rothy’s (the shoe company) came out with a new line of bags, including a tote, all made from recycled plastic bottles. In an email, the founder acknowledged that the apparel industry has a staggering amount of waste…and came up with the bags as a way to be a little more eco friendly.

The machine washable bags and totes look nice on first blush…but I noted the lack of outer pockets…which is a big issue for me when looking for a travel tote. fwiw…

But don’t many recycled plastic bottles come from bottled water, which itself is a symbol of waste in most of the US where the tap water is safe to drink?

This isn’t the exact tote I use but it’s similar. It’s a sturdy bag and has a strap on one side that slides over the handle of my roller bag. It also has thick straps that make carrying it comfortable. I take this every time I fly and am able to fit my purse, a stuffable down jacket, my ipad, laptop, small bag of cords, a water bottle and a small amount of food/snacks. This style works better for me than a backpack.

For certain types of trips where I think I’ll need a tote (not on travel days but during the trip), I bring a longchamp tote because they fold up so easily. I don’t find it helpful as my on-the-plane bag because it’s smaller than the one linked above and doesn’t hold its structure, particularly once I put my laptop in it.

I’ve heard really good things about the Bento Bag but haven’t gotten one because I have a Tumi that still works well for me. https://nomadlane.com/

I got a bag similar to this from Costco a few years ago: https://www.amazon.com/Lucas-Luggage-Carry-Expandable-Wheeled/dp/B07B6CZV5W In the bottom part I put in external chargers, cables, emergency overnight stuff, jewelry and a large wrap that doubles as a blanket. The top half holds a well made nylon backpack that has my book/kindle, headphones, wallet, phone, water bottle and sometimes my surface tablet. I can also squish in my down packable jacket. There’s an outside pocket where I can put a travel wallet and my phone. I like being able to wheel everything right to the gate. I have TSA pre-check and no need to remove anything. Once at the gate I take out my backpack and wrap and the bag folds down and zips up to fit under the seat. My backpack is my “personal item” and can fit next to the bag underneath.

@gosmom I also take issue with the lack of interior pockets in the Rothys tote. It looks like they only have one small zippered pocket. Although I do like their shoes so I support their brand expanding in this way, just don’t think this particular design would get me to try one of their bags.

The Bento Bag would drive me insane!! Pockets overload. Way too much for me to be functional.

Lo and Son’s! I personally love the OG (I may have it in three colors), but they also have a few other styles. Great customer service and the bags are really high quality. They also run sales all the time.
