We’ve re-done our attic, and I have been looking for light fixtures for the ceiling, which is only 7’ high. I don’t want fluorescents, and these will not be recessed. I have not been able to find anything online. The websites have thousands of fixtures and it’s hard to search through everything. Any ideas?

[Something like this?](http://www.lampsplus.com/products/brushed-steel-13-inch-wide-ceiling-flushmount__12088.html)

archiemom, that is perfect! Thanks so much. It’s only 4" including the glass shade, and they have it in white. And it is inexpensive. There is also a slightly smaller size, so I will figure out which size will be better and then order later this morning.

Thank you so much! I’ve been looking off and on for a couple of months.

Just curious…why don’t you want flourescents? We have some very energy efficient, and nice flush mount flourescents in our finished downstairs. You would NEVER know they were flourescents…very pretty round fixtures with pressed glass covers.

You’re welcome NYMom. I start at Lampsplus for all my lighting and for lighting for clients. I have never had a problem, even with returns. And we have these particular fixtures wall-mounted in our stairway.

Here is one from Lowe’s (you guessed it right, I’m researching lights as well):

Needs only one regular bulb. FYI - our Costco had 3-packs of non-dimmable LED lightbulbs for $18.

I can’t answer for NYMom, but I can tell the difference in light quality very easily. We just bought a house, and I went around pointing to the various ceiling fixtures and telling H which ones he needed to change the bulbs in, before even seeing what the bulbs were. When he opened them up, they were all fluorescent. I have sensitive eyes. :)

We use fluorescents in places where I don’t care - unfinished basement, attic, garage, etc. Everywhere else they’re going to pry incandescents from my cold, dead hands (although I’ll be happy to use LEDs when the price comes down).

Also I second LampsPlus, as well as LightingDirect.com. Very fast service, free shipping, and no hassles about returns.

I ordered 6 of the fixtures archiemom found, and I’m relieved to have that chore off my list.

About fluorescents, I am like Booklady, sensitive to quality of light. When I am traveling in places where the light is very different, e.g., LA, it bothers me and I don’t feel right until I get back to my familiar surroundings. I have fluorescents in the basement.
