Looking for similar college setting

I was going to second or third Virginia Tech and JMU. My younger S was a huge clemson fan since he was a preschooler, and he definitely wanted a big school with sports. He applied to clemson (OOS), Virginia Tech, UVA and JMU. Was accepted to all and chose JMU. He loved his time there, though still also roots for Clemson! (And H and I are Hokie alums and we live in VA in case that wasn’t obvious)

Clemson mom & a PA transplant; we’ve probably worn a rut in 81 from all the trips back and forth over the years. As other’s have asked, what are your concerns about the distance? There are a lot of kids from the Pittsburgh area here, so your DD could find other students for carpooling. We fly out of GSP for all of our trips; it often ends up being cheaper to connect through Charlotte, Philly, Baltimore, etc than flying direct out of Charlotte or Atlanta. If having her 9 hours away in case of emergencies is a concern, the local parents all step up from going to the ER to rides for surgeries, we’ve done it all. I’m not saying Clemson is the one, but there are ways to work around the distance at most southern schools.

Miami University, Oxford Ohio
Joining the bandwagon, it was one of D23 top choices and they give great merit or they did at least up to 2023
D23 did not like Ohio State either
She ended at University of Florida which would be a fit as well, depending on stats, but is a reach for OOS students

The parent community at Clemson is like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

OP if 9 hours is too far - what’s the range you want to be within ?

Would flying be a possibility ?

Hopefully you have enough with 4, 5 and 6 hrs or so but I don’t know if that’s in play either ?

Most have been mentioned, but my best guesses to look at- Indiana, Miami OH, Appalachian State in NC (not yet mentioned), U of Georgia, Virginia Tech, Purdue, West Virginia U.

Mentioned but we don’t know an acceptable distance.

You are correct, sorry for the oversight! I second the suggestion of App State.

No biggy. Op needs to find schools. Hopefully they give desired distance feedback. Va Tech is over 5 hrs. I assume but don’t know that distance works given the current student they have who attends.

If they chose JMU, it’d be one drop off / pick up if calendars worked out
