So maybe a condo on Catalina Island. Condos at Hamilton Cove come with a golf cart and the complex has a pool, croquet, sand volleyball, tennis, pitch & putt golf course, etc…
Tx5athome- we have been to Catalina. When the kids were little we went every August and rented houses. Inlaws still go every year on their boat and various families join them just not all of us at once. Otherwise I agree Catalina is a great multi generation locale. Catalina would be super easy but the kids won’t find it exciting.
Most of us have been to Whistler but not all together. I’ll pass the Whistler suggestion. on to MIL.
My kids have been lucky to have one set of grandparents who love to travel. We have all been able to see a lot of the world.
Bromfield- mountain sky looks great.
^^^Doesnt it?
I want to be adopted by mom60’s in-laws!
We used to be family of 15 then 13, now the number maybe going up again with some of our kids having SO. We have been doing family vacation every year for 20+ years. We have been on cruise, house rental in HI, Europe, all inclusive vacations. I think best vacations have been Club Med and high end all inclusive resorts. Last one we went to was Melia hotel at DR. Rooms were very nice, great beach and good food and drinks. There were a lot of activities at night. There are some nice Club Med on Mexico’s west coast, like Ixtapa. Not sure if the recent hurricane caused any damage. We have adult kids too. They like to come down for long weekend due to their work schedule. We always have a lot of stories to tell after each vacation. Never a dull moment.
You’ve explored the whole country
of Africa?
We do a big family vacation every, year. This year there were 14 of us and we went to Disney World. It was one of the best ones we’ve done yet, in terms of level of everyone’s enjoyment. We stayed at the Grand Floridian on the club level and the hotel was beautiful. No matter what someone wanted to do, there were others who wanted to join them. There was good golf, beautiful pools, a terrific water park for the grandchildren, boat rides, great restaurants, shopping, and, of course, the parks. We did a couple of character meals which the adults enjoyed as much as the little ones. Live shows, fireworks nightly, concerts, a lovely high tea for the ladies, spa days, really something for everyone. It was one of the most expensive ones we’ve done, and we’ve taken everyone to France, on a Mediterranean cruise, to Whistler skiing, and to London, to name just a few, so it’s had some tough competition!
A who teaches at our HS organize trips through a group -there are several you can use - this one was go ahead tours … with 15 you might be able to to just organize and be your own tour group and get two or three of the trips no charge. You can pick anywhere you want to go - we did landed in Barcelona, to the Mediterranean, to Florence to Rome. It was spectacular. Cheaper than we could have done it. Everything taken care of. Some down time to do what you want. Optional excursions for added dollars. Fabulous tour guide. Seriously a great trip - highly recommend for a group …
Talking about tour groups, we did a trip with Backroads travel out of California several years ago, and it was wonderful. We did another with a company called Sojourn, and it was also wonderful. They were primarily bicycle trips, with other activities also planned. Everyone involved on both trips seemed to have a great time. It does require a certain degree of fitness to do these trips, but they will do specialty trips for a group your size.
Houseboat, ski boat, jet ski rental at Lake Powell. We did family houseboating many years ago at some CA lakes and Lake Powell, Powell was hands down the best place.
Two favorite places of mine…
Both are great for families and provide both family time and away from the kids time.
Both have most everything included (activities and meals) so no dipping into the wallet or trying to decide on activities.
Both provide nice cabins for each individual family.
A Guest Ranch in CA

A Family Camp in Maine
http://medomakcamp.com/family_camp.php
Note: If you have teens, the family camp may work better. They gear activities for all ages (even adults!). The ranch has a children’s program but no structured activities for teens or adults (besides the family evening activity).
We’ve attended both multiple times, PM me if you want more info.
Edit: Guest ranch allows any length of stay and any day of arrival. Family camp has Sunday arrival and Saturday departure.
Thank you for so many great ideas. I will be passing them along to my MIL.
I am extremely blessed to have a MIL and FIL who are generous and also easy to be with. I know many aren’t so lucky.
The youngest grandchild will be 18 next summer, so no need for children’s programs. Grand kids are between 18-29. The grand kids are chiming in with ideas and I see that it isn’t going to be easy finding something that everyone is excited about. Some want a simple trip and others want a “I would never have this opportunity without Grandparents trip”.
Lake Powell and house boating sounds great. I think 1 family has gone before. Plus July or August is extremely hot. My H wants Tahoe but 1 of my kids goes to Tahoe with the Bf and his family. She doesn’t want to take work off to go to Tahoe. This D is pushing for Jackson Hole.
To whoever made the Africa comment this thread. Of course we haven’t been to every country in Africa. One county and a spectacular trip. Extremely extravagant to take the entire family on their wallet. I would not even suggest they take us on such a trip again.
We might still end up in Hawaii but I want to be able to suggest different options.
