This is not my student; I’m helping an acquaintance’s daughter.
She has told me that her EFC on FAFSA 4caster is $1,800. NPC on SUNYs are around $15,000 but I haven’t seen the specifics so I’m not 100% confident that the calculations have been correct. She is not eligible for EOP/HEOP. She will qualify for Excelsior.
I’m not sure what the family can/is willing to contribute yet but think she’s willing to take out $5,500 loan.
Student is first-gen, latino. UW GPA is 92. SAT is 1220. Good extracurriculars. She lives in NYC area but doesn’t want a city campus so CUNYs aren’t a great option.
She’s open to SUNYs. She could commute to schools like Iona, Manhattan, Manhattanville, Fordham. Also open to other private schools in CT, MA, NY.
She’s also concerned about application fees and guidance has told her she won’t qualify for fee waiver. Is this true? If she reaches out to schools directly is it likely they will waive app fee?
