Congrats on everyone getting good news. I never fully understood how stressful this process could be on everyone. We are not giving up home as it’s my daughter’s first choice. I just keep getting different answers from the admissions team. Hopefully we will get to celebrate soon along with everyone who hasn’t heard anything yet. Fingers crossed that this week will be a good news week.
I called yesterday and they said that they are trying to have all decisions out by next week. This is probably the worst waiting game ever! At this point I’m not sure there’s much more I can do to get them to make their decision lol
just curious where you heard 20% and why you think it will be on par with the other schools you noted
At admitted student day they said they had received 44000 applications so far (this was February 23 eye of the tiger event). Since then they said that it was looking more like 47,000. The average yield is about 27-28%, so for a class size target of roughly 7,000 the implied admission rate is around 55% which is a drop of about 21% vs previous years. I think Bama and LSU are going to be the new “it” schools going forward.
Hello All. I need some advice. My child is considering LSU very strongly but is a bit overwhelmed about the process. Can someone outline the housing process at this point for me? Is it too late to get on campus housing if she hasn’t already committed and signed up?
Heard the same thing at admitted student day in March
First year students are required to live on campus unless they get an exemption. I think the following web page explains the process well.
Does anyone have any information on the pre scholar program in the Summer?
Did she get in? I still haven’t heard anything. Once again, admissions counselor said I’m in the “tail end of the review process” which I have been for months…
Yes, she got in on Monday but only if she completes 5 week program this Summer. I’m calling today to try and get more information because we are confused about it. We are leaning towards Ole Miss at this point because she was told even if she takes the program it doesn’t guarantee that she will get admitted by her college counselor and the program goes until August 13.
My son finally got his acceptance last night. But since he hadnt heard anything by April 1, he had given up on lsu and committed elsewhere.
Our child applied in January and we still haven’t heard. Are there others who are still waiting?
This was an excellent Forum for my son and myself as we awaited a decision from LSU. My son applied in Oct. 2023 and heard back with an acceptance on March 15. He already got far down the road with another university, so he won’t be going to LSU, but he was interested at the start. The long admittance process created a loss of interest and didn’t bolster the school’s reputation. To add to the negativity, as soon as my son was accepted, we started getting emails everyday with subject lines with extreme urgency that we sign up for tours/admitted students day, etc. It’s not a good customer service experience when there is a long delay and then suddently the customer is asked to jump quickly. Our admissions counselor called the other day and I share our experience and that Forums like this are out there. I realize universities are not corporations and don’t have big marketing teams, but this is common sense. LSU needs to review their admissions process from the view of the student/applicant (customer) and create a more welcoming and less frustrating experience. And this is really common sense, not something you need a marketing team or expert to detect. Thanks again for sharing.
And just to add to my statements and the logic: LSU is rolling admissions, so students should expect a shorter timeframe to hear admissions decisions. Some schools state the day by when they will get back to you and that is fair. But if you are rolling admissions, the expectation is higher that you will get a response within 4 to 6 weeks. Maybe LSU should consider not promoting that they are rolling admissions. Thanks again.
The odd thing is that LSU is totally capable of a short turnaround. My son applied in October and heard back during the first week of December. I Understand that their admissions office is short staffed, I really think they do changes in the communication intervals would make all the difference.
We found out yesterday- and our child was accepted- and decision is due Monday - literally a weekend to decide- and we applied in January. I also don’t understand the summer session. It looks like the only way he can accept is if he accepts the summer session? And we can’t afford it without scholarships- so I’m not sure it’s feasible after all of this. I can’t believe they couldn’t figure out a decision on a more reasonable timeline for families.
Hi! We got a similar letter yesterday but it’s not clear - and I remember you saying this here- is the summer session required when they offer it? It certainly looks like when you click the link that it is but the letter doesn’t state that explicitly (which is pretty poor communication for an acceptance letter). Since we just heard yesterday (Friday) and decision is due in a couple days - I thought I would try and ask you.
It’s possible that for students with high gpa, test scores and strong participation in high school activities, it’s a slam dunk and they respond quickly. But if that’s the case, they should not advertise themselves as rolling admission. More transparency on the timeframe would be helpful.
I feel for you and your child. I realize schools can accept whoever they want and they don’t have to make it easy for students to attend. But potentially stating that everyone will get a decision by April 1 (for example) would help, so families can plan for financials and starting the process with other schools. Thanks for sharing and I know your child will make the best choice and love wherever he/she goes.
Definitely wasn’t my son. He has solid but not spectacular stats. I think LSU just has a random process of grouping applications for review. You’re either lucky or not.
