Magnet High School versus Public

ACT or SAT are not the only way state and fed govt compare high schools.

I’m a proponent of CYA, not the unequivocal declarations some posters make about what’s important in college admits vs not. What if, spurred on by the rest of hs, she does want to aim high for college?

It’s not just one “passion” or pursuit. But not random whatevers, either.

I trust you’ll make the best decision you can. But do consider making it in the right context, the fuller context.

lookingforward I am trying to imply that the tests mentioned are the only way we Mississippians (parents/students) can compare our students to other states with better public education. (pretty much all of them)
Is a high GPA in Ms. equivalent to a high GPA in MASS./California?
i.e The Score for the PSAT in Ms. is lower to make NM Scholar. However if your SAT score is comparable…? You would have made it any state.
bloomfield88 I believe that you are correct and your input is valued.

Perhaps you can take a look at what advanced courses are offered at the local public school.

If AP courses are offered, find out if A students in the AP courses routinely score 5 or at least 4 on the associated AP tests. SAT subject test scores in relation to regular high school courses could also be of interest, but probably not widely available if few students take them (because only a few colleges want them).

.

I think the question is does she want to go to boarding school, especially one that isn’t well established as a boarding school. Have there been any discipline problems at the school? Any safety issues? Competition issues? Social issues?

As PSAT and often SAT are taken junior year, credit for number of NMS or high SAT scores belongs to the schools, these students came from, not to the magnet.

@FSUdad93 I attend this school! pm me (sorry this might be late)
