<p>I would assume that Chicago’s international studies major is comparable to other schools’ IR majors. Keep in mind, though, that there is no STANDARD IR curriculum, as there is no standard English major or anything else, and that course offerings change from year to year.</p>
<p>In the long run, I imagine that either major (or another major entirely) will lead you to international business.</p>
<p>I took the major requirements for IR/IS from three different schools (Chicago, Tufts, Yale) and looked at them side-by-side.</p>
<p>Tufts has the most required classes:

<p>Yale’s is the most open-ended:

<p>But all have similar offerings.</p>
<p>My IS friends at Chicago say that the major is a hodgepodge from different departments (primarily history and economics), which they really like. Tufts’s IR program is recognized as one of the best in the nation, and I know nothing in particular about Yale’s progam. It sounds like IS at Chicago would fit your long-term career goals, but make sure that the school fits your short-term intellectual goals.</p>
