CMU does have a directing major. There are about 15 undergrad directing majors right now, five of which are freshmen. These directors do taking acting classes with the acting and MT majors and have great opportunities to work with many guest directors who are brought in for their productions. Good Luck to you!

SMU has a directing tract after first 2 years of BFA Theatre Studies.

UMich also have a BFA Directing program with a great reputation, from what I’ve heard. And while it mightn’t have the same name as UMich or CMU, I’ve heard some wonderful things said about the directing program at Pace.

The one thing that I would suggest is really looking into the degree structure and courses that you would take in each program. Some undergrad directing programs offer numerous opportunities to direct productions, other courses may offer you the chance to direct a production as a capstone project, while others might only offer you the opportunity to assistant direct. I guess it all depends on what is important to you!
