1- Be really involved in your campus politics (i.e. RSA- Resident Student Association) your freshman year, because
2- It will help your chances of being an RA for sophomore year

If you can become an RA, room & board are provided by Pitt (so that saves you almost $8k a year).

It’s unlikely that you will get more financial aid.

3- Apply to work in a research lab (depending on major). You can find some labs in the pre-med/sciences that need workers and will be paid about $7-$10/hr for work. Over the course of a month, if you work 10-15 hours a week, that’s almost $500, or $4000 in a year.

4- Apply for an off-campus job. Lots of kids do it to help pay for college, you wouldn’t be the first.
