Manhunt for pizza crust DNA-identified murder suspect

A man H went to HS with had a home invasion–naked man with two guns broke into his house. The man ran to the neighbors to get help. The wife and D were with that crazy, armed man for hours. After many hours, the man shot himself as the police were closing in on the home, with blood & body spatter everywhere. The family left that home and had all its possessions tossed or moved. They never returned to that home or neighborhood and were all severely traumatized. It wasn’t clear what that man did to either of the women, but the family has never been the same since.

I’m always amazed at the fb posts of folks who are traveling. Especially those who don’t have their pages locked down. I hardly ever posts pics until I get back so no one other than a few close friends know I’m traveling. I’m paranoid like that.

Is it just me or is anyone else thinking a panic room doesn’t sound quite as extreme anymore. Besides being concerned about workers I don’t allow my name to ever be published in fundraising books like schools and charities publish. Not that I have money worth killing me over, but I don’t even want our names out there.

You do have to be very careful. I own some VRBO rentals and sometimes I get requests for the actual address before a booking. VRBO advises that owners not give exact addresses because burglars could then look at our online calendars, see when the homes are vacant, and rob them. Obviously, guests do want to know where a property is before booking, so we give major cross streets or something else that can somewhat pinpoint, but not to the exact address.

Imo if you are wealthy enough to afford a panic room then you probably should get one. But a good security system first.
OT, just a public service remubder: for regular non wealthy folks, we should also think about non-criminal emergencies like what do we do if we wake up and the house is on fire? Or it’s flooding / blizzard/ tornado/ earthquake / etc. Lots of good advice on the web.

with these new “smart watches,” I wonder if they’ll have something on them that can quickly alert the police and your GPS location in an emergency.
