March 30th 2011, 5PM

I will be on a cruise in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. Aw well, I do not care anyway. I already committed to UF to avoid a massive loan.

Just wanna chime in that I’m another mid-Atlantic slotted for 6pm. It seems to be more or less regional, but hey, time will tell. :)

Univeristy of Florida? No way congrats  Very good school!

maybe the times were given according to the names. otherwise, it would be very weird if it is based randomly.

^I think assigning them randomly would be the best choice.

I’m from Malaysia and I got 30th @ 5pm - that translates to 31st 5am Malaysian time :)

West coast, but 6 PM.

Just wanted to comment on an earlier post about last year and the Duke timestamps. They did mean something last year. All of the applicants with the later timestamp were rejected (well, one person with the later timestamp claimed they were accepted, but I don’t think it was accurate). The applicants with the early timestamp were either accepted, waitlisted or rejected. All likely letters had the early timestamp. Consensus was that the other applicants with the early timestamp went to committee, where they were either accepted, waitlisted or rejected. Because Brown has stated this means nothing, it probably means nothing though.

It sort of makes sense to do it regionally, I think – it makes it more fair in terms of certain people having to wait longer than others.
It ends up being 5:00 in the home time period for everyone that way, right? I’m definitely seeing a trend in reading through where people say they live and when their time slot is.
I’m east coast at 5:00.
Very conscientious of Brown to do it that way, I think.

Just wanted to mention to things to maybe ease everyone from being nervous about this.

Last year I had two friends who applied to Brown RD.

My first friend told me her decision was available online at 5:56pm (email said 5pm), with an acceptance.

My second friend told me her decision was available at 5:00pm, with a rejection.

Clearly, no indication of acceptance, rejection, or wait list because of times, since these girls both were accepted under the 5pm time frame.

Thus, I think it’s best to say BROWN DOES NOT WANT THEIR SERVER TO CRASH! :)

Best of luck :))

I agree; it’s almost certainly to avoid a server crash.

I was given a 6:00 PM login time. I received a likely letter and live in the Midwest.

@Annetaylor124

So are you saying Brown OFFICIALLY had different time slots open for different people last year as well?

I mean if it did say 5PM for everyone in the email then it’s a totally difference case from this year’s.

anyway. did any likely letter recipients get any other time slots than 7:00 PM?

Last year they assigned different times as well. Darthmouse recieved a likely letter, and his decision is 6:00pm. I’m telling you from last years that the times have no correlation with acceptance etc. I reaally hope we are all accepted :)

Just to confirm: are the given times merely a suggestion, or are 7 o’clockers unable to log in before then?

well, i wouldn’t want to tick them off… if they emailed you a time, you should stick to it.

I would assume that you’d be able to log in before your time (since you can log in right now if you so wish), but the decisions won’t be up and therefore it’s not worth your while to log in before your decision is up. Try to stick to the time they give - it’s for a very good reason. We don’t want servers to crash.

Note to self: do not attempt to log in to Brown network at all on March 30th.

First of all, they are not going to revoke an acceptance because you chose to log in at 5PM. Also, I’m sure there will be thousands of people who were assigned a 6/7 PM time that will still try to log in at 5.

On the Regular Decision round thread a few months back, the applicants were saying that there was this certain way that people could see their decision a few hours before it came out? It was like part of the code on the page… and there was code each for waitlist, accept, reject… I don’t know a whole lot about computers, etc., so I don’t really remember haha. But I remember that it worked and people saw their decisions early.

Does anyone remember what exactly that was?

***I meant Early Decision

^^I wasn’t on the forum back in December, but if anyone knows anything more about this I’m sure we’re all interested!
