Marijuana likely getting reclassified as a lower risk drug

I’ve read numerous studies about the placebo effect pertaining to weed. It carries powerful placebo effects in study after study.

My wife in an OT that works in early intervention with children under 3 years old. She does home visits all day, almost every day. At least 3 days a week she comes home wreaking of marijuana and has to take a shower to get the smell out of her hair.

In NY, dispensaries are highly regulated and restricted to selling products derived from marijuana grown within the state. Alas there are a zillion unregulated stores because the state has been slow to issue licenses.

When I go to a dispensary, as soon as I walk in the door, a worker scans my license to prove that I am at least 21 years old (lol I will be 76 next month). All licenses were issued to companies formed by people who were incarcerated for marijuana-related crimes. In theory, it’s a great system although the proliferation of unlicensed stores, who may sell to minors.

Perhaps better to keep one’s eyes on the road than looking in other car windows :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

LOL! They conveniently hold their blunt out the window while they drive.

Hmmm… if they and you are both driving, seems like it might be hard to tell , driving by with both drivers on the left side of their vehicles, exactly what kind of cigarette was in their hand. :woman_shrugging:

They’re in front of me. I’m looking straight forward, as I was taught in driver’s ed. Their smoke is wafting in through my open windows.

Then that’s one driver. As you drive. Seems different than “many drivers”, if you can see/are referencing just the one car in front of you. And glad it’s warming up so you can now open your windows. Harder to do in the winter.

I can’t stand any cigarette smoke. Dislike it if it wafts into my car.

Not all consider tobacco or alcohol a “drug”. They fall under substances, but not necessarily “drugs”.

If that happens many times, doesn’t that mean many drivers? Is there a reason you’re parsing words over this?

It’s everywhere here. As I mentioned upthread, H has to unload/load cars every morning. Cars sealed up tight and you can smell them coming - with their kids in their cars.

But our inspectors often also complain how seemingly every car reeks of marijuana as they drive by them on the streets - while they are standing outside inspecting street construction.

I’m a runner in the early morning hours, and while not that many cars drive past me at 5am, many of those that do reek of marijuana. They don’t even need their windows to be open.

I don’t live in a college town, but I do live in a poor one.

And I’m not against it for medical use. I actually voted for it back in 2020. But I guess I didn’t realize how the cars reeking would be EVERYWHERE around here. And also the people. Go into walmart, grocery stories, gas stations, etc. You’re going to smell it everywhere around these parts.

Because hyperbole is unhelpful.

Maybe you just like to follow stoners?

It’s unavoidable, there are so many now that wacky tobaccy is legal in MA.

It’s fascinating. We drive in California a lot and don’t have that same experience. One would think we would.

We could take this to PM if you feel further conversation is important.

No thanks. Just noting that the “OMG it’s everywhere” type comments (no one’s in particular) makes it hard to talk about the reasons they are considering reducing its classification. The topic is about that, for medicinal use. All the other is kinda off topic.

I must be in the minority. I don’t use it, but I like the smell.

We live in the same state, I do not live near any of the universities and I smell it daily while out and about. Yesterday, using the car wash vacuum- car pulls up next to me, heavy smell. Went to the fitness center, car parks next to me smells just as bad. Fitness Center has open gym basketball- many young men show up to play reeking of weed.
I often smell it while waiting at stop lights. No problem w/ people using but don’t think they should be driving.
