Massachusetts 14 day self-quarantine rules & College arrivals

Really not hard to compare, because Florida now has more total cases than NY.

And yes Cuomo “threatened” to sue RI because RI was not allowing entry at all.

Neither here nor there. The rules are meant to reduce spread. I don’t think it such a bad idea at all. There are too many colleges and universities in these areas. They also fuel the local economy. Why not everyone do their part in ensuring safety, so we call all go to school? Why is it mainly parents looking for a loophole?

Florida currently has 27.5 deaths per 100,000 residents. NYS has 79.1 per 100,000. NYC is at 279.8 per 100,000.

To be fair, Rhode Island never barred New Yorkers from entering:

“A political battle between Rhode Island and New York’s top leaders over new coronavirus precautions ended this weekend after Gov. Gina Raimondo changed her executive order that mandated New Yorkers who traveled to her state be quarantined, regardless of symptoms.“

This process sounds oddly familiar…

I never said deaths. I said Florida passed NY in total cases.

Anyway, off topic.

We are discussing the 14 day quarantine required by MA for incoming students. I feel it is the right call for people coming in from hotspots in order to reduce the spread and protect MA from becoming another hot spot.

Ironically, the return of all these college students could potentially raise Covid cases to levels that will place Massachusetts travelers on quarantine lists in CT, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI & VT.

One of my wife’s patients just got a $1500 bill from Maine. They traveled to Maine on vacation and traveled back without a COVID test or a quarantine. Somebody tracked them down.

^I have not heard any stories like that. I haven’t heard of any fines. Is there a link describing fines? That just seems odd to me.

I haven’t heard of anyone being fined for not quarantining in Maine. Who is supposed to be enforcing this, anyway? Not the business owners, surely! We have a brewery and my husband has customers from all over the place, judging by the license plates in the parking lot. He has no idea whether they quarantined or not. Just getting people to take the mask law seriously was hard enough. He’s not going to ask for proof of negative Covid test or evidence of 14 day quarantine.

This doesn’t bode well for the policy, returning students, or the State’s covid numbers:
