Massage chair anyone?

I am thinking of getting my wife a massage chair for Christmas. I know price ranges vary greatly and I certainly don’t have room in my budget for the expensive ones. I have been doing the customary Amazon search, been reading reviews and asking Chatgpt questions. Anybody here have good experiences or bad about a purchase, what features you like or anything else that will carry on a massage chair conversation? Right now it is just an idea but I know it would surprise her. By the way I know they take up a lot of space but I think we’ve got a spot that will do. Thanks

All I can say is that my BIL had one, and i would disappear into their bedroom to use it the whole time we visited. Because of health reasons he had to give it up, and I am so sad. It now lives at HIS BIL’s place, which we never visit. I do remember that he got it at a home improvement show.

These chairs are so personal. Furniture is hard to return, so I recommend looking at what Costco offers. If you don’t like it, you can haul it back for a refund!

I would definitely have the person who will be using it try it out to be sure s/he REALLY likes it. They are all pretty big and take up a significant amount of floor space and some folks like it a lot more than others.

My siblings have different models of massage chairs and they get varying amounts of use from the residents of the house and visitors. Personally, I’m not a fan, but have tried various massage chairs.

Other things that are less expensive and have a smaller “footprint” are Nekttech massager that massages the back & neck (under $50) and arm and leg devices that squeeze and release pressure (sort of like a blood pressure cuff or what they use in the hospital to prevent blood clots. We have these things and they get varying amounts of use, which is OK since they don’t take up that much space.

I never cared too much for them until a recent vacation. For our annual trip of four couples, we rented a spectacular home in the mountains. There was a massage chair that was so good that we practically had to have a sign up sheet to make sure everyone got their fair time in it! We looked it up online and it was $16K!!

Sometimes you really do get what you pay for.

We’ve had one for years and it’s a smaller model because we have smaller rooms. It’s awesome and guests almost always head straight towards it.

It’s called whole body 5.1 and the company might be human touch.

I know it wasn’t very expensive.

I just looked it up, very reasonable for a massage chair!

I love a good massage chair. I’ve been known to find them in airports (my favorite is in Maui, way in the back, by the brewery, super quiet area), they’re 15 minutes for $5 - I slide a $20 so fast in the slot, and I’m good for an hour! I’ve used them worldwide. They’re great. I’ve never thought about buying one, but the Human Touch one is so reasonable…

It looks like the human touch ones at Costco have good reviews, but they’re big and pricy. I’ve only used them at nail salons and didnt like them very much, but I dislike pedicures anyway so I might’ve just been grouchy.

The model we have is quite small (our house is small and the rooms are smaller).

We’ve had it for probably 10 years or so, so of course the current version of our model number may no longer be compact – but hopefully it is!

It looks like it is (now I want to buy one for my husband, he’d love it). Of course now my Facebook feed is full of massage chairs!

To me it’s a novelty. Yes, on a vacation etc their fun but I doubt she will use it past the initial excitement. Plus I agree she needs to sit in it before. It might be comfortable for you but not her. Maybe go shopping and see if she would like it. You don’t have to say you’re getting one but if her answer is like “I don’t think I would ever use it”… Than you got your answer. But I do give you credit. My wife would be like “and when does that go back to the store”? Lol.

You would probably save money and get her a package of full body massages somewhere.

We’ve had ours for about 10 years and still use it. It’s a smaller model and doesn’t scream “massage chair”. It just looks like a regular comfy chair.

Have you used one of these? I would cry tears of joy if my dh got me one, and I’d be in it every day. Def not a novelty.

Yep. Have used them. I just know that when getting things like this they get used daily or all the time till they don’t. I also know my wife. She would want a certain style, fabric and comfort. Just my opinion.

I’m with your wife re: aesthetics! :+1: I want my furniture look like furniture and “blend into the environment.” Which is a modern spin on MCM. One of those airport chairs - no way.

Something like this… potentially.

I like that but she might slide off. After 38 year’s I have figured her out. Plus we have different tastes. I am a visitor in “her” house . That much I know. Lol. Know thy spouse .

We’re on our third massage chair (over many decades). It’s always a challenge to get one H likes that doesn’t look ugly to me. He uses it almost every day. This is the one we have now: Gravis Zero Gravity Recliner + Air Massage | Relax The Back

It hit the sweet spot on looking nice in the room and having the functionality he wanted. It is pricey though.

This looks like a real piece of furniture! :+1::+1:

I’ll take the chair, use it daily. Oh, and I’d love the massage package too!

The one we used on vacation was very high tech. It measured your body-length of torso, length of legs, width of hips, etc. to give you an individualized session. It even massaged your arms. It had therapy mode, deep tissue, stretching, etc. I’ve never experienced a massage chair like this one before.

I would definitely use it every day if I had one. But because of aesthetics, it would have to go into our “man cave.” No way that thing takes center stage in our main living room.
