Massive Princeton graded writing sample problems: help please!

Most students write very poorly, so if you have something from an in-class essay that is well-written don’t worry about submitting it.

I would not overthink this, as others have said. I don’t think they are looking for a creative masterpiece.

Princeton may have to change their policy by the way. With AI available to students, many professors are going back to blue books and in-class writing, as your private school English class seems to be doing. Do you have no record of that in-class writing?

As a last resort, explain the situation to your 12th grade English teacher (maybe the guidance counselor as well) and ask if you can write a paper (not assigned to the rest of the class) on an agreed upon topic for the English teacher to grade. If the English teacher agrees to this, be sure to thank them.

The student said they were not taking an English class this year…

Oh right. Then perhaps the guidance counselor can find an English teacher at the HS who is willing to help.

The paper can be in History/Social Studies. They are basically looking for a short analytical piece.

When selecting a paper to submit, please keep in mind the following guidelines:

  • The paper should be writing done for an academic course, preferably an English, social studies or history course, during the last three years of secondary school, including senior year.

  • You may send a paper, essay, research paper or essay exam. We are interested in seeing expository writing only, not creative writing.

  • One to two pages in length is sufficient.

  • The paper should include the course instructor’s grade, and comments if your instructor provided any.
