Master bath remodel

S2’s dorm room had Corian walls and rounded floor to wall joints in the shower. I wanted that too…then I priced it out…not happening :((

After breaking my ankle, I’d want a large enough shower room that you COULD wheel a wheelchair into it and a bench to sit on and a handheld as well as overheard shower. Our showers don’t allow for these things but my brother remodeled his place so his new shower DOES have all of that. plus no walls or doors to clean. It is lovely but his bathroom is as large or larger than D’s bedroom, I think.

I love, love, love my no curb shower. I just put a handheld shower in, it works fine as an overhead shower too.

“It is nicer to not have the master closet accessed from the bath- humidity and you can use it while someone is using the bathroom.”

That will depend on the climate and family preferences. In CO, humidity is not an issue. (It was an issue in NY, so I understand the concern. I’m told in the south it can be even worse.) We like the master closet in the bathroom. Then if one of us is up earlier, it’s easy to shower and dress without waking the other.

We’re in the South and have had our closets off the bathroom in our past four houses. I prefer it for convenience. Since we always use an (exterior vented) exhaust fan while showering, and for the recommended 20 minutes afterwards (easy with a countdown timer switch), we’ve never had a problem with humidity in our closets. The bathrooms have been compartmented, too (toilets in water closets), so there’s no issue with both of us using the bathroom and accessing the closets at the same time.

Ok - I’m back - we need a large light for the bathroom remodel. Prefer a drum - 30" or 40" in diameter. Very hard to find - any websites you have used for light shopping that might carry large fixtures, for under $1k. :slight_smile:

@MaterMia Try Lumens or Currey

Thanks - some beautiful ones there - but nothing chrome or big enough - less than $6k or so! It’s like looking for a needle … chrome, (black, gray, white, etc) … at least 30" wide …

Overstock.com is where I look first for lighting for remodels

Thanks … I have tried there … one more question - what is a good brand of towels? Not too expensive, but nice and thirsty and hold up well?

Nothing beats Costco’s towels when it comes to value for money paid. I think the brand is called Charisma. They are solid color, no fancy embroidery, but they are great towels for what you pay. Macy’s has hotel brand towels that are good, too, but they cost significantly more.

Another vote for Costco’s Charisma towels.

I like the Macy’s hotel brand. I never seem to pay full price for anything at Macy’s.

@mycupoftea: I went on the Currey website but it doesn’t show any prices. What am I missing?

@MaterMia , try http://www.farreys.com/. They have great stuff.

We just moved into our second home so I had to buy multiple sets of towels for every bathroom. I bought a couple Charisma at Costco and a three varieties of Hotel Collection at Macy’s so I could test the differences. As much as I love Costco and wanted to save some money, there is no comparison. All the Hotel collection towels are much more plush. I’ve watched the sales and coupons at Macy’s and was able to outfit all the bathrooms with Hotel towels at lower prices.

@VeryHappy
you may need an interior designer or a distributor who has an account with Currey. But their prices are very reasonable

Thx

Also take a look at Visual Comfort lighting. We have a 30" drum from them in polished nickel which may be an acceptable substitute for chrome. I found that decorators get the greatest discount on some brands of lighting, including Visual Comfort.
