You need to know if they’d be willing to pay for 4 years at a college that is NOT Harvard and, more specifically, a college from your list or suggested on this thread.
If they don’t want you to know what they make, could they run the NPC on 3 colleges that are not Harvard and let you know which are within budget?
And can you let us know?
I guess it makes sense if you can get into UF/FSU Honors they would want something noticeably better or different for the amount they’d pay: smaller classes, less weedout, no class over the summer or online, a name that’s better recognized…(??)
For premeds a key element is support because very few premeds make it to med school (perhaps 10-15% of those who think they’ll be premeds will end up at a DO or MD school )
It’s very common for students to shoulder costs for graduate or professional school themselves and for college graduates not to depend on parents anymore so that’s not an immediate concern. However the cost of college makes it impossible for you to pay for your own undergraduate studies - BF+ 15k would cover room&board and you could always “bank” the 5.5k federal loans just in case something falls through and your parents cut you off during college.
But even with a full tuition merit scholarship (very hard to get) colleges will expect ~20k or so for room&board (+ fees, books, transportation, etc. -some of it depends on personal choices so can be cut but everything billed directly to the college is unmovable.)
No, I know you know what I meant. What I should have said is that they will miss the snowed-in environment for weeks because they’ll be back home in their weather. I guess I should’ve been MORE specific.
SUNY Buffalo has a long winter break because they have an intercession. So our daughter flew off in early to mid December, and returned in late January to Buffalo.
My daughter was always home on winter break, in ~72 degree weather, while on a 5-6 week period. When she went back, the snow plows had cleared everything around the school.
I’m back with the budget. It’s around $18,882/year or less is what my parents are willing to pay for out of state (that’s the UCF COA minus only Bright Futures). It’s a little more than I thought but still limited.
You still have Bama and the McCullough pre med program you could afford. Or FAU Wilkes in Jupiter but it’s very small.
As for the small privates, it will depend on your need calculation to see if they will get to your cost. So have your parents run the net Price Calculators.
For instance, if you get the full tuition scholarship from Fordham, room&board= 25k, so 18,882+ (part of) federal loan+personal savings cover easily … whereas it’s too much from 15k.
