Match me - High stats cs major looking for match schools [TX resident, 4.0 GPA, top 6% rank, 1570 SAT, <$40k (<$80k for reaches) from parents]

The title says they are looking for match schools <$40k. That is accurate.

Edit: (General comment, not directed at any particular poster.) It is not unusual to see posts where someone states they have not read all posts in a thread. If you are one of those posters, simply divulge that and the OP will understand you may not have all information. However, one would expect everyone to at least read the opening post before providing advice. The title in and of itself cannot provide all information.

I think you’re absolutely right about this. Some questions you might want to think about as you reflect:

  • Do you want urban/suburban/small town/rural?
  • Are there certain states or areas of the country you’re particularly interested in (or interested in avoiding)?
  • Are there any climate preferences?
  • What size classes do you prefer?
  • What size school would you prefer?
  • How do you feel about enthusiasm for intercollegiate sports?
  • How do you feel about Greek life?
  • What kind of vibe are you hoping to find?
  • Are there any other factors that are coming into consideration in your college decision (religion, a particular EC, other)?

UTD and UT Austin both have excellent CS honors programs. Both are worth looking into.

I know for a fact that UT Turing scholars have fantastic internship and full time opportunities. Both likely fall into the reach category, but at in state tuition prices, their opportunities and outcomes are great.

Lots of great suggestions by @AustenNut as always.

NJIT is good, but make sure you’re ok with its campus and location. Stevens is very good too. Between the two I’d personally lean Stevens. With merit, COA should come into the mid 40s I think.

They have now drastically reduced the number of students who can do a CS major so this should be addressed.

Overall, check how strong a school’s CS program is, not just the school’s overall rank/reputation. Especially if you want to do research.

Thanks. got confused with fye while typing. anyway these are just examples.

Utah would seem like an obvious cheap option. And SLC is becoming a pretty active tech center.

Purdue CS is my default answer for anyone high stats trying to diversify because it’s such a great program and is a tremendous value for OOS students.
