<p>It is math department policy that a minimum of 50% of students must be in A or B range for the 30 series. No matter how lousy the professor is, this is constant. Usually, I’ve seen top 25% equate to an A, next 25% a B.</p>
<p>This class isn’t too hard and you can easily study it from the book. I definitely don’t recommend retaking 31b. You should be fine in this class. You’ll mainly be competing against Freshmen, all of which got at least a 5 on Calculus BC. Just study hard and do your best.</p>
<p>I’ve found that as an engineer, it is a waste of time to fret over professors. Most classes are in the MWF format so there will be tons of conflicts. You also have to consider the fact that the better professors will have their classes filled early so get used to not having the perfect schedule.</p>
