I may have to disagree with some of the statements here – but I don’t want to prolong the argument :-).
Focusing on curriculum: Thinking about different mathematics & computer science specialties
Mathematics: Algebra/Number Theory/Algebraic Geometry, Analysis, Applied Math, Discrete Math & Combinations, Geometry, Logic, Statistics, Topology
Computer Science: Artificial Intelligence, Biocomputing/Bioinformatics/Biotechnology, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics/Science, Programming Languages, Software Engineering, Systems, Theory
In all of the top programs, you’ll be taking Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Probability & Statistics, Complex Variables, Analysis - the common body of introductory mathematics knowledge. Many programs offer both applied & theoretical versions of courses.
The curriculum offered by each departmental program is important in additional to any general education requirements. Some colleges & universities the B.A. degree, others the B.S. degree, or both. You need to ensure that will be getting what you came for - math degree, compu sci degree, double major, double degrees, a major & a minor, two minors plus a major in a completely different field. Also, some colleges & departments are more flexible & accommodating than others.
