Actually Catherine Walker( VP major at CMU) left Mary Poppins to join Ragtime and was with it from the start in NYC. So sad it is closing–she is a friend of my daughter’s.

I was so depressed to hear about Ragtime closing. Just think of all the work, time and money going into this process just to get into an MT college - and for a career where your amazing, gorgeous, well-reviewed show closes after only a few weeks. Sigh.

Classicalbk, you’re so right about this business - it can be so harsh! Right after the show we spoke to a young cast member who knows my D. She said that they had announced the closing to the cast just before they went on that night. She seemed stunned, of course. After an instant and thunderous standing ovation from a packed house, we were stunned, too. At least public demand has extended the run for one more week.

ttmom: just realized 2 days ago as I was on the Ragtime site looking at the bios that Catherine Walker did join Ragtime! My mistake! But to chime in with what everyone else is saying, it is rather scary that a wonderful show with a talented cast and good reviews has trouble succeeding on broadway. Same deal with Finians Rainbow (which I just saw on Tuedsay, FANTASTIC show that doesnt deserve to close!)

I was told that this year 850 people are auditioning for mt alone. Which is higher than it usually is!
