May 2013 Biology SAT 2 test

yeah, the colorblind boy was 1/4.

and i’m pretty sure that the colony one is 80,000. It’s a simple math question, i did it 3 times and got the same answer.

lets say that 1 mL has 1000 particles.
diluting it to 1000 mL (that is, 1 L) would mean there are 1000 particles/1000 mL.
Taking 0.1 mL of that 1 L ((1000*0.1)/1000) would give you 0.1 particles/mL.

Now, just taking 0.1 mL of the undiluted 1 mL is (1000*0.1) that is, 100 particles.
That means the second solution has 100/0.1, or 1000 times many particles as the first.

80*1000 = 80000.

Voila!

@ionlyflyaway the one with 3 unafected sons i think they said was autosomal recessive so it wasnt sex linked. I put that the sons would be heterozygous or w.e. it was …(A) i believe.

@mystic1996 i think it was 1/2 for the boy bc if the dad has it he has XY and the mom would have XX bc one of their daugheters i believe had it already. So the cross would end up with offspring for the male X*Y and XY which is 1/2

Yes it was 1/4 for color blindness , and concerning the parasite one it is the one that doesn’t kill its host

@bmonticello
You’re assuming that it is given that the offspring is a boy.
It was asking for the probability that it was an affected boy, not the probability that a boy would be affected.

hey guys, do you think the test was a little bit harder than the practice tests or released exams by collegeboard. Those tests give 800 when you miss 5. I took those tests and they were MUCH easier. I hope there is a bigger curve. XD

Yeah protist and plantae

@insurrection ADSLKFAJDSLF DAMMIT

@bmonticello I also got the heterozygous thing. But for the boy, the question asked what is the probably that they will have a boy who is colorblind. Their probability of having a boy is 1/2 and the probability of that boy being colorblind is 1/2. Don’t you multiply the two?

for the conjugation question where it said if you stop conjugation half way…what was the answer…i think i put find the spot of a gene or something?

@mystic yeah i assumed they were asking only if they produced a boy what is the prob that he is colorblind…dammmit…w.e. maybe i put 1/4 idk…i put that for something i know for sure lol

bmonticello23, you are right. The answer was helping find order of genes on chromosome

was the question with the graph which rose and then abruptly dipped down to 0 that the protein/enzyme thing denatured at 40 degrees?

It was to detect the position of the gene
And the probability was 1/4

yeah insurrection thats what i put

Yes i got the denatured thing. Ugh so annoyed at the parasite question I got that wrong grr

crap now im at -5 damm

Lol I’m at like -10 so don’t worry about it.

hey, what did you guys get for the control one, where the apex of the plant was cut. It was the uncut, cut with nothing added, and cut with lanolin?

@YomnaAyman, yea i put 1/4 too for the probability of the colorblind boy

I didn’t have the uncut as a control. I put cut with nothing added (II) and cut with lanolin (III) as the controls.
