McCain/Rice ticket?

In fact, he was a slacker in his younger life, and he admits it. He was a poor student, dated exotic dancers, drank, partied, etc. Obviously, he improved considerably. but it’s hard to deny that his family connections gave him a head start. There’s a real problem with criticizing McCain, which is that he endured a horrible experience, during which he showed great bravery and integrity. But you have to be able to look at what he did before and after that period as well.

“Slip of the tongue, that’s all.”

Some slip of the tongue, when he says that Al-Qaeda is being armed by Iran.

I think the legacy of his poor student days is that he still doesn’t know how to study.

Actually most of his problems at the USNA had more to do with insubordination than anything else. He was a wild-child. I would actually like to see a president who is willing to tell people what they don’t want to hear. We would never elect one because we can’t get our collective heads out of the sand. No one wants to vote on the big picture anymore. It all started with that goofy “Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago garbage?”. It’s an ultra-marathon, not a sprint. We need to stop voting our pocketbooks and worry more about 10 years down the road.

Or a hundred. ;)

Actually it was probably only his (pig-headed) stubbornness that got him through the Vietnam POW experience. If there is one theme to McCain’s life it is stubbornness. You can call it ‘resolve’, ‘conviction’, etc. But there is a certain inflexibility and an inability to see multiple sides of an issue. That worries me. I am not sure I want another stubborn President. Bush is bad enough.

Slip of the tongue? Ha! Wow, it is a very bad sign for McCain’s candidacy if it relies on such willful self-delusion. The truth is quite plain to see. He said the same thing on the radio earlier in the day.
