McCain to Hit Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

I respect Cindy, too. It’s McCain’s action I find crude and sexist.

Apparently, the men on this post find no problem with it. That explains a few things.

And so does your humor free attitude.

So sorry. I forgot my place.

Enjoy that hairshirt. Be ever vigilent to slights.

I watched the video. All I heard was McCain saying that Cindy should enter the beauty contest. He never said a word about it being topless. Maybe he didn’t know - and if not, I bet they had a huge laugh about it afterwards!

Which is what I suggest everyone around here do! Have a laugh for goodness sake! FWIW - I’m female and I’d never in a million years participate in a topless contest, but I don’t see JM’s remarks as all that offensive.

Cronie, sorry, but I agree w/ Barrons - lighten up a little. (Unless you’re ready to become a crone instead of a cronie!). jk! jk! Alas, you probably won’t like that comment either. :o

You changed your post, barrons? Good, as the original made you look like a such a scold.

And bz, I’m sure you’d already consider me a crone. No offense taken there.

This is very interesting. I wonder what the general CC take on these comments of MCains would be. What do others think it says about the man.

I have a feeling it would divide along partisan lines rather than male/female lines.
I’m also beginning to understand why all those Hilary supporters are so upset she lost.
Sexism is much more prevalent in our society, and more acceptable, than racial prejudice.

.

Wouldn’t that prove that they aren’t sexist?

It would prove to me that they didn’t necessarily see it as sexist.

Some don’t see it, and some just don’t care. And some may agree it’s sexist, but give the old man a pass, because well, he’s John McCain.

I did not change my post.

Post #23? But I copied and pasted it exactly as you had written it. Do we have ghosts now on CC…;)

Oh, man, this is the stage in presidential campaigns that is just…embarrassing. When the candidates decide to show up for Good Ol’ Boy events to show what regular Joes they are. So they have to put on the flannel shirt, or the hardhat, or the motorcycle jacket and pose with Average Americans in their natural habitat, to demonstrate what Average Americans they are. Except that, you know, they aren’t. Nobody with a serious shot at the presidency is.

It’s so painfully orchestrated and fake, no matter who the candidate is.

He has difficulty attracting large audiences, so he went out and found one. I think he was being creative.

I thought the McCain comment was funny. My H & I have a sense of humor & enjoy cracking wise with each other. I would not have been upset if I was in Cindy’s shoes. She’d have a better shot at winning a beauty contest than I would. And that’s part of why it’s not a cruel comment. If Cindy were homely, or very overweight, it would have been nasty & uncomfortable.

This is funny, too: [url=http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/64ad536a6d]Paris Hilton Responds to McCain Ad from Paris Hilton, Chris Henchy, and Adam “Ghost Panther” McKay/url

We thought the Paris Hilton ad was very funny at our house, too.

SS- the contest in question was not exactly what we think of as a “beauty contest.” More of a naked parade with simulated sex acts. It’s actually pretty disturbing to imagine Cindy in that contest, from a number of angles.

But, hey, there’s no accounting for taste.

I wonder how many people were really even paying attention (or capable of paying attention) given all the other attractions and distractions?

[McCain campaigns at another sort of rally in Sturgis, S.D. - Los Angeles Times](Bare skin, black leather, hogs' roar greet McCain)

Yup, he done his party proud…

Lots of great people in the Republican Party - all types.

Best not to stereotype.

Their votes count just as much as some prof from Yale. That’s what makes America great.

The party of “family values.” ad nauseum

OK, so we do all know what a “buffalo chip” is, right? A dried up pile of dung. KUDOS to whatever male came up with this “contest”!

More importantly, if Mrs. McCain were to WIN this great honor, what does that make hubby? ;)

It’s actually quite amusing, watching the mental gymnastics people are performing in order to make McCain’s words “just a harmless joke”. But I think we all know what the response would have been had Barack Obama offered up his wife as a contestant in a topless (and occasionally, bottomless) “beauty” contest.

Blind partisanship is such a fascinating spectator sport, one requiring more mental gymnastics than a Chinese contortionist!—Wait, here while I go pop some popcorn.;)
