This is true. There’s not really any benefit to the program other than peace of mind in knowing that you’ve got a spot at the med school. With the GPA and the MCAT score required to remain in the program, you can get in pretty much anywhere. Well, you don’t have to do extracurriculars or community service, but you should be doing the extracurriculars anyway if you’re paying $50k/year and if you’re just applying to this program to get out of community service, you should think about a profession outside the medical field.

There aren’t many better medical schools than WUSTL. According to US News & World Reports, [WUSTL has the 3rd best medical school in the country](http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/grad/med/search), after Harvard (1) and Hopkins (2). According to Wiki (not a great source, but whatever), [WUSTL is ranked by USNWR as the number one most selective medical school in the country](Washington University School of Medicine - Wikipedia). And if you’re interested in areas such as pediatrics, no other medical school in the country even comes close to providing the kind of opportunities that are available at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
