Media Bias

b&p: The operating premise of the Media Research Center is that the media have a liberal bias and that its mission is to “neutralize” it. That mission in itself suggests an anti-media bias, wouldn’t you say? I would not, prima facie, expect MRC to be free of bias, not to cherry-pick information in order to make its point. I would not use it as a credible source for accusing other media of having a liberal bias.

As for bias, I’ve already acknowledged that the media are profit-driven. An old-fashioned, and not very liberal-sounding motivation.

I haven’t seen any of the networks claim that “we give equal coverage”. In reality, there are exemptions from the Equal Time Rule which were developed specifically to deal with news coverage.

I think that a large part of this is the fact that Obama makes for better news reports than McCain does, regardless of whether he’s in Baghdad or Biloxi. Last month, when McCain was in Canada, Obama got more coverage in the Canadian news even though he wasn’t even here!
