I thought Notre Dame had one of the best medieval departments. Who gave it a low ranking?

The NRC rankings put Notre Dame’s history dept. as a whole at 59th. US News ranked the top 10 European history depts. Notre Dame didn’t make it. ND didn’t make US News’ full history dept rank list, either. They have several medievalists, but the dept. as a whole isn’t the most highly regarded. That said, anyone who feels it is a good fit shouldn’t avoid it. I’m just talking rankings, and we all know the realities of those.
