Mediocre grades, excellent SAT

I see. Thanks for the support :-)

Where are you planning on applying?

uman, you SAT scores are epic, phenomenal. Come on, a 2370 is merely 30 points away from a perfect score. With a good essay, your SAT score will definitely be appealing. GPA does count, but I know that level of difficulty of schools in this country fluctuates like crazy. For christ sake, the valedictorian at my school cheated her way, constantly. Is that fair? But seems like her SAT score really implied that she cheated her way out, haha. With a 2370, apply to all the top notch schools, I know you will accepted to most of them, with a good essay.

Good luck man!

As others have said here, don’t sell yourself short. I think with great essays that display how much you like learning you have a very strong chance at UChi. I infact, had a 3.5 UW at a very competitive school, 2370 SAT (770 in writing) and you can tell by my location that college admissions weren’t that bad for me. :). I’d also suggest that you get some great EC’s under your belt too. I think thats even more important at this point than your GPA. Great EC’s show that you care despite your less than stellar GPA, poor EC’s and GPA show that you really don’t care and that you’re just smart.

Okay. Thanks for the advice. I’ll definitely apply to Chicago and maybe some other dream schools as well just to see what happens  And if not, some mid-range schools, and even then, honestly, if I only end up at the state flagship university (U. of Arizona) I’ll still be perfectly happy.

Update: I just got my AP scores back for junior year. All 5s in French, English Language, and Calculus BC (which I self-studied). Does this change anything?

Great job! I think you should swing for the fence. The AP scores certainly show your substantive knowledge. Just make a real effort the keep the upward trend in grades first semester so your mid-year report shows the adcoms at the top colleges that they you deserve admission.

It shows you are a darn good test taker who is obviously very smart and can perform at a high level. That can translate into good grades in college (where grades are often dependent on one or two tests and a paper) so it ups your chances of admission. Apply wherever you want… you just never know!

Okay, great!

wow…
I would kill for your 2370.

so watch out.
XD
(i’m kidding… please don’t call the police.)
I second, (or third, i dunno), McGill- I thought about it, but I couldn’t afford to come home for Christmas.
or ever.
Also- what about French schools? I don’t know any specific ones, but I’m fairly sure they disregard most GPA info, esp. US.
good luck!
