Mediterranean Cruise experiences?

That cruise does sound awesome. Maybe some airfare deals will come up. One thing to consider, though, is Greece in the summer is a really hot time of year, so you are talking about a seriously sun and beach vacation. Though I think it may be somewhat cooler in the islands, so that would be a positive for going to the islands. We went to Athens in May, and it was too warm for me…Kudasi (Turkey) to visit Ephesus was almost more than I could take…

Thanks for the head’s up. While I personally love the hot weather… my fiance is a fair skinned ginger who would rather play in the snow. I should probably take his likes and dislikes into consideration. A little. Maybe :stuck_out_tongue:

Ha, you’d better think about what he likes, or your trip just might be miserable! If he’s not happy, he might just ruin the trip!

Romani, Have you spent any time up in New England and/or Canada and, if not, what about a 7-day cruise to Canada in the summer? Cheap airfare to the east coast from the Midwest. Cooler weather for your fiancee.

That brings up the point that you do want to check weather comparisons- at sea and in ports. Late May/early June in Kudasi was fine for us, a bit cool for the beach- and the water was still cold. Dry, not humid.

That is a good suggestion by jshain. There are some interesting itineraries that cruise Canada and New England. Also appealing to me is a cruise to Bermuda. All leave from east coast ports, and the overall cost including airfare would be far cheaper.

I’ll tell you, that cruise we did to the Med last May was really expensive. I just didn’t realize how bad it was going to be. It was for four people in two cabins, we got a great Costco discount and paid less than $1K/person for balcony cabins. Two airfares were free because we used air miles. We got there one day early, left two days later, for a seven day cruise. Did not travel extravagantly, did not purchase cruise line excursions, watched our cash flow but didn’t penny pinch. Gone for 11 days, cost 17K. Had I realized what it was going to add up to, I would have booked Bermuda or the Eastern Caribbean instead. I used to be able to do the entire 7 day cruise vacation for all four of us, for less than 3K, when we went on Alaska or Caribbean cruises. Europe is expensive.

And I agree with busdriver about Bermuda. The beaches are spectacular!

Husband and I did a 10 day Eastern Mediterranean Celebrity cruise in early fall 2013. One of the best things we did was “meet up” with other passengers on cruise critic website prior to cruise.

With others from cruise critic we were able to arrange private tours, ranging from 6 - 12 people. All the private tours were less expensive than the cruise excursions, and it was much more fun to be in a small group.

Ouch busdriver! That is a pricey vacation! Sneaky expensive.

When young friends of our got married recently they did a short vacation after the wedding in the UP. Although the beginning of June is a bit dicey for the UP. Then they did a warm weather cruise that winter.

We hate to leave Michigan when our summers are so great here for such a short time. Like to stay in the state and go someplace warmer when our winter seems to go on forever.

Ohhh, Michigan. I booked my wedding for May expecting that perfect Michigan weather-- no more snow, grass is green again, it’s warm but not yet blistering hot. Now I am just hoping for no snow and green grass. Hoping by the time we get back from St. Lucia it’s warm enough for a South Haven trip.

^ Ema, hope you are having happy days as the date approaches.
