Mental health professonals - anyone care to diagnose Charlie Sheen?

This story really has legs:

He is about to be live on the Today Show, 4:30 a.m in California. WTH?

His speech has a halting, pressured, staccatic stutter/dysfluent quality to it. I do hope they request a psych eval soon, as part of the decision re: placement of the children.

He and his attorney, sitting beside him, were being challenging yet cagey. Playing this out in the media is not the way to go if the best interest of the children is really what is at stake.

I noticed that about his speech too. He is his own worst enemy.

Mr. Sheen needs to have his attorney with him at all times. (Maybe he can move in with Charlie and the goddesses.) Charlie’s personal affect in the interview was still disturbing - doesn’t look like he’s eaten or slept since Sunday’s interviews - but he didn’t say as many outrageous things. The attorney (wisely) answered some of the questions.

I wonder if there is a stable relative on either side who can take care of those little boys.

Didn’t teriwtt say the maternal grandmother was going to care for them? Agree, its better to place them with family than in foster care.

We have dysfunctional families as entertainment (Real Housewives of …), incompetence as entertainment (Dancing with the Stars, American Idol,) and morbid obesity as entertainment (Americas Biggest Looser) and lets not forget all the showcasing of hoarding, drug abuse, and domestic violence. We have reached the new frontier with Charlie Sheen:the televised manic episodes of someone suffering from Bipolar disorder as entertainment. So sad.

He looked like a wreck but he addressed the custody issue in a fairly rational manner this morning on NBC. He may have a good chance of getting the restraining order [relating to the children] reversed. His domestic situation with the two girlfriends isn’t ideal but can the soon to be ex-wife prove that it’s detrimental enough to extingush his parental rights? Maybe not. Also, the ex-doesn’t apparently doesn’t come to the situation with clean hands, because of her own alleged drug use.

Those poor kids. I wish some relative could just take them out of the country for about 20 years. Mandatory castration is sounding like a good option for Charlie.

LakeWashington - but I think the basis of Brooke’s request for removal was his threat of death and violence directed at her. Demonstrates instability and irresponsibility. Only time will tell if the courts truly believe her. However, with his erratic behavior being televised on national TV several times a day, it’s not difficult for someone (a judge) to discern that he’s not responsible and it’s more likely her story is plausible.

He’s not exactly denying the threats… saying they’re ‘just talk.’

And, the difference between Charlie and Brooke is that she is in treatment (and was before all this started with Charlie, so it’s not like she decided to go into treatment so she could take the upper hand) and he isn’t. She has a mother who is willing to be responsible for the kids while Brooke is in treatment. And Brooke said she’d get to spend up to four hours a day with them. I’ll bet that’s more than Charlie has been spending while on his whirlwind media tour.

For what it’s worth, Charlie Sheen said Brooke’s allegation about a death threat is ‘made up.’ Neither of these parents have clean hands but it seems there should have been a bit more investigation made by authorities before separating the father from the children. Maybe the ‘prevention of domestic violence’ laws are different in California, but I don’t think a restraining order [to “protect” Brooke’s] to remove the children would have flown in other states, given the bare facts that we’re aware of at present.

I think that’s the issue. We don’t know all of the facts and have to trust that the judge saw enough to warrant their removal (all he has to do is turn on the TV).

Again, in the interview I saw, when he was asked about Brooke’s accusations of threats, he replied, “they’re just talk.” He did not say she made them up. I think he was trying to say he was just blowing off steam.

One thing Charlie’s lawyer mentioned on the Today Show is that a court order was carried out quickly without notification to Charlie’s side. That would indicate that it was done as a cautionary measure and isn’t any kind of final word on the matter of custody. I’m glad it was done, I can see that Charlie Sheen is having a meltdown and it doesn’t seem like a good idea to wait until he crashes before the kids are removed from the home. Remove them now before he self-destructs rather than waiting for him to crash. It’s true that you remove the kids without concrete proof, but I would rather see an error on the side of caution that waiting for Charlie’s meltdown to play out.

New evidence of Sheen’s violent threats have emerged. I won’t repeat it verbatim, but he uses anti-Semitic words in a text message to Brooke to say he’s going to execute his manager.

This is one of the pieces of information submitted to the judge yesterday to secure the restraining order, so now we have evidence of violent threats against Brooke and his manager. My bet is that there’s even more evidence that we don’t know about.

I’m not surprised by the new revelations. Sheen’s rant last week about Producer Lorre [spelling?] seemed to be just on the edge of being an anti-Jewish insult. What his producer’s ethnicity had to do with anything, who knows? Probably nothing. Meaning it the anti-semetism could have been intentional.

Here’s an interesting one:

[Stark-Raving Mad Libs | Vanity Fair](http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/features/2011/02/stark-raving-mad-libs-201102)

Insert your own words and the program creates it into a mad sounding CS imitation.

I have a loved one with bipolar disorder.Listening to C. Sheen has made my heart sink. I’ve lived through this sort of one sided manic “conversations.” I shudder to think what people would think of my brother’s mad ravings when he was off his meds. It’s a disease that few people understand and easy fodder for our low rent media cravings.

Isn’t mental illness HILARIOUS?

zpmx–thanks for posting this earlier.

http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/two-takes-depression/201102/charlie-sheen-wild-boy-troubled-man

I have dealt with a man with bipolar disorder on a almost daily basis for the last ten years. I have seen him in the heights of manic and the lows of depression. I have seen him on his meds and off. I have seen transitioning from one state to another. What I notice when watching Charlie Sheen is how eerily similar his arc is to the man I have dealing with for these ten years. The really wild stories, followed by a seemingly rational dissection of his own behavior, the ability to function well for periods of time coupled with the completely irrational behavior. But what has really surprised me is how eerily similar their physical behavior is. The aggressive posture, even when sitting, the head tossing, the twitching, the hands.

From what I’ve read/seen here and there, in addition to letting his two skanky live-girlfriends care for the twins, Sheen also has two weekday nannies on staff plus a weekend nanny–between the multiple caregivers in that household plus spending half the time with their rehabbing mother and whatever childcare arrangements she has, those poor lids must not know whether they’re coming or going or who they can count on for loving care. What a tragedy for them.

Right on the money, Lololu. ((hugs))

We have both “been there”.

I understand how the general populace doesn’t understand this (CC et al)but the media’s handling of this is completely unforgivable. They know EXACTLY what is going on here and insist on milking this poor mans desperate situation for cheap entertainment.
