Mercersburg gift

FYI, a parent friend visited the Mercersburg campus recently for an away game and said it was both gorgeous and impressive.

Mburg has recently built a new house for the headmaster and an beautiful student center. The library is newish and the Burgin center is as impressive as it gets. I really can’t think of anything that needs renovation, but I believe there are plans to turn the old headmaster’s house into an administrative facility and maybe something about a new swimming facility? Everything else is already top notch. When I visited in May I was so impressed with the grounds (stunning flowering shrubs, perfect lawns and flower gardens) that I sent an email to the groundskeeper complimenting him. I’ve visited a LOT of schools and with the possible exception if SPS, I’ve never seen one where there was more beauty wherever I looked.

If you go to the website, there is a link on the first page, a shield that says “daring to lead” that outlines the plan:

Here’s the breakdown from the above link Note, the new student center and headmaster’s house have already been funded and completed.

70 mill for FA
35 mill for faculty
30 mill for academic and residential program
80 mill for facilities - Parent and Alumni center, New Aquatic center and New Field House
35 mill for annual fund
50 mill in planned and deferred gifts for discretionary endowment

To reiterate what sevendad has said, my daughter is a top student…top grades, top test scores, everything. She is VERY happy at Mercersburg. Quality of life there is very high and she is getting a great education without the all-nighters and constant stress that occur so often at many prep schools. She can have all the long nights and brutal independence she wants in grad school. But right now, she is having a blast exploring new interests, making friends from all over the world, taking classes she has always wanted to take, going to HUGE bonfires on the weekends, staying busy busy busy and being happy happy happy.

Off topic, neato, but are you able to comment on the arts at Mercersburg, particularly theater, and (if you know about it) vocal music?

Twinsmama, I’m sorry for being so late to reply. Theatre is the oldest student group at Mercersburg. Many kids are involved in it and they have an amazing facility to work with. Whether you child is interest in stagecraft, or acting, they will be learning with professional grade equipment.

Please let admissions know that your child is a performer when you apply.

My daughter spends a LOT of time at Burgin…a LOT.
