Merit Scholarships with 31 ACT?

Given that IU still charges in-state rates much lower than Illinois where >11% of its students come from, it’s no surprise Indiana is hitting the locals with less scholarship dollars. They figure Indiana folks will still come to IU rather than pay OOS and they’re right.

As an OOS parent paying roughly 23k more than native Hoosiers, forgive me if I shed few tears. I know, our choice, but it still hurts that people from Indiana going to the University of Illinois only get hit for 15k more than a resident. Of course, that’s because our in-state tuition is already 50-100% higher depending on college.

Get a 31 on the ACT and you’re in the top 3% of the country. Obviously that’s worth about 20k or less at most top universities over 4 years.

We clearly need free college in this country to stay competitive with our global competitors who offer it, but that’s a topic for another forum and will likely happen one day after my kid graduates. LOL
